I would only add that when burning gas, the best place is on highways between fields where there are fewer lungs and more flora to fix the CO{2}. The worst place is around town where there are so many more lungs.

Plus, doing so in a car as insanely clean as a Prius isn't as bad either.

You mean Tesla's infrastructure is inadequate for 95% of the population? That is an interesting statement.

Clean is obviously a relative term here, much like "clean coal" is.

Glad you have convinced yourself of this rubbish. And really glad there are much more intelligent people around here that understand that isn't anywhere near the truth.

Our species has resumed the to move to renewables, in effect solar power (that great fusion generator in the sky.) But we're still a long way to go. Even now, we use fossil fuels that extract the raw materials, manufacture the tools, and even the Gigaplant that assembles the Tesla batteries. That factory does not fetch the ores and refine them to make the feedstock.

It took from roughly the 1850s to now to learn how to convert fossil fuels into useful work. It will probably take as long to go completely renewables ... if we don't blow ourselves up like steam engines used to do.

A Tesla isn't zero emissions under any circumstances.

And you've done the driving habits analysis, like I have, right?

Yep, lots of it. Didn't I tell you I was a government scientist that works at the NHTSA? For the last 60 years now.

    See...anyone can make up stuff.

Recall for ~98% of those~5% trips, you can rent an appropriate vehicle for so much less $$$ than driving an inappropriate vehicle ~95% of the time. I say 98% because for the Harvey's and Irma's there may not be one available. But 98% of the time, you log on, reserve the one you want and even in this town of 10k people, the rental office is daily pleading with me to come rent from them.

Thank goodness I am hearing from all my Florida friends that they are safe and relatively undamaged while they wait for the same power that Elon would use to power his vehicles. One called today while driving around in her ICE while charging her cell phone.

Maybe she should be conserving her gasoline. No power for BEVs means no power for gas station pumps.;)
Getting gasoline for generators was an issue after Sandy.

    more and more powerwall battery backups are coming online every day ;
There are even gas stations getting power from the powerwall in some places. In fact the Hawaiian island of Kauai is now running on the powerwall (& other renewable energy sources). Oh the irony, filling up your gas tank from a pump running on pv solar, (& other renewables) stored in the powerwall.
Many of the supercharger stations are now storing excess renewable energy in powerwalls, which pretty much puts to bed any negativity that you need the grid to be able to deliver a ½ gigawatt or more to supercharger stalls.

Some areas hardest hit here by Hurricane Harvey are still w/o power. About 5 days after landfall when it was finally safe to do so, they brought in large diesel generators to power the major fuel stations along with resupply tanker trucks and gas was flowing days or weeks before most got electricity.

Source: Can EVs handle the distances we drive? • A Study
    • ~50% daily drives are in the 25 mile range (Prius Prime)
    • ~90% daily driver are in the 75 mile range (BMW i3-REx)
What I found is doing a daily, lunch triangle works:
    • 100% SOC from home to work ending ~65% SOC
    • 65% SOC to near-by hour long lunch with free charger ~95% SOC back at work
    • 95% SOC from work to home ~60% SOC for overnight charging
Then there is the daily, shopping triangle:
    • 100% SOC from home to work ending ~65% SOC
    • 65% SOC to after work store/bar/restaurant ~35% SOC
    • 35% SOC shopping, supper, e.t.c., on charger 85% SOC
    • 85% SOC to home 70% SOC

And odds are that a household with a BEV also has an ICE car of some type.

My wife has a midsize sedan that we use for trips. There is no need for me to also have such a large car for my commute, and neither does my needs require the long range and fast refuel of an ICE. All the cars in a household do not need to meet every possible use that the household might have.

If I wanted to own an all EV fleet in a very disaster prone area, such as the Gulf Coast or anywhere in Florida, I would make sure and have solar panels with a Powerwall backup.

Probably a good plan even without any plug ins.

Your assumption that BEV households also have some type of ICE is spot on and likely governed by need. However, your assumption that all cars in a house hold do not need to meet every possible use that a household might have is governed by personal choice, not need.
