Meanwhile, the dead of winter in Palm Springs runs around 72°f

Finally saw my first model 3 in my town wednesday, in the parking lot at work (where I first see new stuff), and in parking space number one, no less. They wanted to be seen. Then yesterday, another 3 in front of the bank. This is how these things always work for me. Two Bolts seen together in the lot, then two Primes, then two 3's. I predict I'll see a pair of McLaren 720s' next. Maybe I should always have my camera on me.

For better or worse (IMO for better) the model 3 is going to become almost as common as the Camry.

definitely better, but i don't see it happening outside california until other states do as much to promote, and tesla itself does as much as they do with cali charging infrastructure.

Charging stations are going to become ubiquitous. Tesla will have over 500K on the road within the next two years. Add to that Bolt, Leaf, i-Pace, Mission E, VW, Audi, MBZ, Bummer and there will be a significant demand for charging infrastructure, everywhere. Where there is demand, there is profit. Look for Tesla to open up their Superchargers to other selected makes as a profit center (with "at cost" discounts for Tesla brand owners), third party applications, and Big Oil to jump in to hedge their bets on gasoline stations. I think you will also see interstate businesses, like restaurants and hotels, offering "free" limited charging to entice paying customers. It is happening, the future is at hand.

If you have two more years in your lifetime, you will see it, regardless of where you live in the contiguous US. And then if you put in a NEMA 14-50 outlet in your garage and you can see it tomorrow. It cost me $250 for the install in my garage and it looks like your garage setup is similar.
