Son (6'6" 185 lbs) drove a perhaps year old M3 and found the back of the seat uncomfortable. Have the seat designs changed? Is the lumbar area of the drivers seat adjustable?

The seats have not changed. There is power adjusted lumbar support. It moves up/down and in/out. It’s the round button on the seat control panel.

Yikes - at just ½" shorter, weighing 210 - people say that's too thin (body mass chart says otherwise). So 185Lbs? yea, seats are designed for the average person ... & mid 6' height ain't there yet. Maybe in another decade. The Prius chat shop sold seat extender brackets at one time. That's one way to go. Others use different gel or wedgie lumbar pillows to give better back comfort.
