I test drove a HyCam; it felt *big* by comparison. Maybe it's that
whole slab-sided gangstah-car look they're all getting these days.
I also have learned to hate large center consoles that constrain
your legs; there's *no* reason to have that huge klunky shifter in
the middle when it could be another cute little electrical-switch
lever like in the Prius that falls readily to hand, is almost
impossible to move where you didn't intend, etc etc. And I actually
haul stuff in the Prius, where the hatchback design really shines.

Own both and my/our personal preference is the Prius. But again, it is "personal" preference, they are both great cars. We were a 2 Prius family (a 2005 & a 2006) until someone decided to hit me and total the 2006. We wanted to replace it with another Prius but couldn't find one in the package we wanted in fairly short order so we ended up getting an 07 HyCam.

    Winner Camry:
    Power Seats
    Heated Seats
    Rear ventilation
    Better rear armrests
    Telescoping steering wheel,
    Moonroof (plus and minus here)
    Driver's foot airbags
    Smoother ride
    More power

    Winner Prius
    Better MPG (52 vs 39)
    Prefer bodystyle
more headroom (Camry moonroof reduces headroom)
    Backup camera (none in Camry)
    Hatchback utility
    Handling
    Smaller turning radius

    Camry/Prius Tie
    Seat Comfort
    Leg & Shoulder Room

Leg and shoulder room Prius and bought the HyCam because my wife was making lots of long highway trips and she was tired of getting blown around. The Hycam is not really that much bigger inside and you give up the convenience and flexibility of the hatchback for a smallish but adequate trunk. However, the ride, comfort and handling are much, much better and much gentler on the nerves (especially for highway driving). Long highway drives in the Prius were much more exhausting. I miss the Prius and its go-cart handling and high mileage, but decided to sell while I could still get something for it, and wait for the new model to come out (rather than make 2 car payments).

I assume you mean front shoulderroom cause I can assure you that the Camry wins in rear shoulderroom.

I had the pleasure of a full car on our 02 Camry and with 3 people in the back for an hour or two it's quite comfortable.
