    We'll be closer to 2030 than 2020 by the time Toyota-Subaru finally bring a car like this into mass production... They're only in the earliest stages of drivetrain research and design options and unlike tech companies, car manufacturers take an eternity get to their launch day.

    Smart. They get their best profit by making a zillion identical things, so it pays to allow the technology to mature as much as possible before locking in their designs and committing to production.
