Use Split Screen on the main display. On sub-screen choose Current electricity consumption or Current fuel consumption. It will automatically switch between miles/kWh in EV mode and mpg in HV mode.

Hadn't made it far enough in the manual yet. I'll check that out. I was assuming something like that existed.
    Thanks a bunch!

So guys, I was wondering if EV Auto works best with less than 50% charge? Over 50% charge, it'll act as if it's in EV mode anyway since there's plenty of charge and the whole purpose is to drive in EV mode but with less than 50% charge, then with higher voltage and heat losses with battery use, I suspect the lower the charge, the higher the likelihood of the engine coming on to assist in passing (highway) or uphill (steeper ones) climbs.

I can give it a shot tomorrow:).

I'll be essential, so I can make my 38 mile each way commute and see if there is a difference when EV auto is used below 50%;).

    Data forthcoming (y).

Try it without pre-engaging the engine (I.e. switch to EV auto before you leave the house) and see when the engine kicks in (try passing or accelerating above and below 50%).
Then try pre-conditioning HV mode by letting the engine run its warm-up cycle then switch to EV Auto and try the acceleration test above and below 50%.

Of note, the last time I tried EV Auto without preconditioning, the engine came on once at 38% then stayed off until EV range was depleted. This was at highway speed.

I tried that and was unable to make the ICE come on, even stomping the pedal to the floor from a dead stop.

Did not try this. Real interested in @Raytheeagle's results.

    79%;).

So my suspicion is this has similar programming to Charge mode where it shuts off at 80%.

One data point and the drive home will permit another(y).

Well on the way home I got the engine to come on at 93%.

So there goes my above theory:cool:.

    But still a data point(y).

Wait.. so the engine came on in EV Auto (no pre-conditioning) at those two high %? Hmm ok... those are freeway speeds, yes?

    Yes;).

When I got onto the freeway in the morning, the display showed 99% and when I mashed the accelerator, it didn't go into the Power section:whistle:.

But I got up do freeway speed much faster than usual:).

I have a couple miles to get to the freeway when I leave work, so I was able to work the SOC down in EV Auto before the approach. And at 93% and on the on ramp with the display in Power section, I heard the engine and the mpg's started dropping(y).

I'm going to guess most reports of EV Auto not using the engine are because most people are driving in a more efficient, 'relaxed' manner, and not calling for the car's full power output.

But won’t normal EV mode invoke the ICE if one trounces on the accelerator? Or do you need to be above a certain speed?

Nope. EV mode is full EV mode even with the pedal to the metal and with 5% battery left.

Like I said earlier, I stomped it all the way to the floor from a dead stop. No ICE in EV Auto. Is there a way to demand more than WOT?

Nope! Not like the PiP in that regard at all.

That is in North America. In Europe, their EV is our EV Auto.
There is also the matter of top speed. You can't reach the car's max on EV alone. Though the EV top speed is in the 80's, so it isn't like that will come up often.

How long did you hold it?;)

There are other variables being considered by the car than power demand and SOC. Battery temperature is another one. Too hot, or even too cold, will make the ICE firing up more likely. More aggressive driving will heat up the battery more.

Dead stop to about 50 mph. Another time from about 35-60 mph. Battery is almost always on the warm side here. 99% of the time, it asks if it can use the cooling system during charging when I shut down.

Unless the battery is cold (just above freezing), and maybe more likely if the heat is on. In that case the engine sometimes comes on in EV mode at 5% or sometimes more. There are no guarantees with this car.

That is true. Luckily for my climate, the heater doesn't require the engine :)

I tried ev auto and I am happy with the results! I traveled a trip there and back, same route! Two passes over 5200 ft elivation! Hyway #3 and 3a along the boarder off Washington! Started with 30% charge and completed the trip with 10% charge! Very warm day. High 30 deg C. 220 kilometers. Started the trip with hv mode for five min. and switched too ev auto! I drove my normal speeds 5% slower than speed limit and all season tires normal pressure 48 lbs. Fe when I arrived home was 3.1 kilometers per 100 or 74.4 US miles per gal. I think the car did well in ev auto? I like it and will probably use it more in the future.
