    The powered hubs that I have used will work even without power, you may want to try it if you haven't already. If it doesn't work then maybe try an unpowered hub which are inexpensive. Powered hubs are usually needed only when your devices are drawing more power than the USB port is providing, like using an external hard drive which has a motor in it. But flash drives and SSD hard drives don't use very much power.

    You can get hubs that are powered by the USB itself (called Bus Powered) and don't need external power supplies. It shares the power available from the host socket across each of the devices connected to the hub. For low powered devices (like USB Flash Drives) this is absolutely fine. For high powered devices, such as hard drives, charging phones, etc, you would need a powered hub.
