<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Tideland Prius @ Nov 25 2006, 12:45 AM) </div> I get about 47 at 75 - 80... I think 70is around 48.8 - 49..not sure.. I rarely stay at 70 for long! But I did a 5 hour trip the other day one way and only got 45ish but then coming back I got as high as 54.. the difference was I kept it around 70 more coming back and I wasn't fighting a headwind like going down. Also, going down I started in the morning and the outside temps were in the 60's till it warmed up, the rest of the trip was in the 70's.
Unfortunately, I live in a very hilly area. Even going 65 MPH, the most I can get on the average is 45 MPG. Also, this is probably my imagination, but there seems to be more uphill parts both going and coming!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Stev0 @ Nov 25 2006, 10:28 AM) </div> Ha!.... I hope I don't start a feud here, but do you have the BT plate?.. I found when I lived in washington, when coming down hills I felt more comfortable taking the corners faster with the plate as it afforded more stability. True, using the brakes and coasting charges the batteries, but even more energy is saved if you don't have to hit the brakes at all.. or at least less and thereby keep your kinetic energy..... just a thought! Another Obsure fact.... the prius has a flimsy stabilization plate in the back! OK.. I'm ducking... let the wrenches fly!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(windstrings @ Nov 25 2006, 11:46 AM) </div> Oh, if the road is empty, I just set cruise control for 70 and usually average about 50 MPG. Unfortunately, that's usually not an option and when going downhill inevitably some idiot in front of me puts the brakes on, ruining my momentum thus making me go up that next hill at 25 MPG.
Today it was raining and when I opened the hatch to put in the groceries I noticed that no rain came in. I've had 2 other hatchbacks and they didn't do this, so of course I was pleasantly surprised. What I can't say is whether it was by accident or by design ?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Stev0 @ Nov 25 2006, 12:08 PM) </div> The other optional part that may help is the BT side mounted Bazokaa... just make sure no one you like is following you when you fire it.. very little rear thrust, so no kinetic issues... and he's gone!.. Poof!.... Really help clear the road nicely.... most folks are nice enough to just move over once they see whats coming! Be careful, its outlawed in most states! B)
On the consumption screen, you can have at most four "energy recovered cars" worth 50Wh each in any given five minute time period, even though you may have generated more recovered energy. It is possible to get a partial "energy recovered car" even though the screen shows no mpg for that five minute time period. I don't know how it can do it, but I've seen it. I don't know if it is possible to get a full "energy recovered car" for that empty time period. Also, this is probably rare, but Toyota says you can't use more than one temporary spare on the Prius at any given time.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(windstrings @ Nov 25 2006, 04:01 PM) </div> Actually I understand you have to install the BT bazooka in pairs - one for each side. Otherwise when you fire it you will have even thrust. Why do you think the Batmobile had its rocket dead center in the back?
The big issue is finding ammunition that will eliminate any of the larger parts ahead while not damaging the road. While we're talking about regen "car" images, I've often thought we should have decals to place on the driver's door. Sorta like the old "kills" markings on military aircraft.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(windstrings @ Nov 25 2006, 07:18 AM) </div> The reason I know is because last May (2005) I did a road trip down the I-5 to Seattle so I was at 70mph for a very long time and it consistently showed 5-5.1L/100km on the Consumption Screen.
Someone may have mentioned it earlier, but it's *really* easy for the rain-gutter that hides underneath the wipers to get plugged up with organic matter and not drain, depending on where you routinely park. Or even occasionally park, when it's high pollen and seed-pod dropping season. Pix here and here. If you hear water sloshing in turns, that's the problem. . _H*
