    OK, I think I see the misunderstanding. When you wrote:
    I thought you meant that the oil has lower viscosity at lower temperature, and increases in viscosity with increasing temperature. So you meant that it has lower viscosity at lower temperature compared to a single grade summer oil, and increases to a higher viscosity compared to a single grade SAE xW oil with increasing temperature?

    If so, sorry for presuming that you didn't mean that, when it wasn't completely clear what you meant.

    So then is it possible to avoid wear at startup?

    What makes you think that's a problem? If it were, every Prius engine would be very short-lived.

    Block heater usage before cold starts might help. With an oil pan heater maybe more.

    Seems like a good idea especially in cold climates if in fact there is wear upon startup which makes sense if there is .
    Just wondering
    Does the type of gas you use increase or decrease wear upon startup?
