How do I find what the total MPG is of a tank of gas is so that I can check it the next time I fill the tank? I know it shows me for the trip I just took but how do I see what it says for the total I have driven since the last time I fill the tank?

Reset one of the Trip meters (A or B) each time you fill up. Keep in mind: it's not accurate; it overstates your mpg by roughly 7%.

If you want an accurate mpg calculation, you'll need to do the math yourself: divide the miles covered on that tank by the gallons required to fill it.

That is what I am doing but where do I read where it says I'm supposed to be getting. When I push the "TRIP" button it shows trip A then Trip B then I guess it shows how many miles I can go on this tank of gas.

Press the TRIP button again (or twice - I'm not in the car right now) after Trip B shows up to see the estimated Distance To Empty (DTE.)

Mendel, that's what I was looking for, thanks! If that's right, then I'm only getting about 42 MPG, ack. I just bought mine, it has 19K miles so I know it's broken in...is that the MPG I can expect to get for my short, cold engine, 5 mile commute? I guess to get 50, you have to be out on the road for awhile...

I'm pretty cognizant of trip length, try to avoid short " impulse" trips, consolidate errands and so on. If your commute is 5 miles, it is what it is.

One thing: ours has the block heater, use it religiously before first start up of the day, aim for 2 hours warm up. Year 'round. Side benefit: it further discourages impulse drives. :)

We've got 17" Michelin pilots btw.

Do tires make a big difference? Not even sure what tires I have but whatever they are, they're stock. I do know a little about rolling resistance, since I'm a bicycle racer and that's a fairly significant factor of efficiency when it comes to tires...

17`` tires should have a negative influence on mpg. They seem to roll surprisingly easy tho.

Moderators: keyboard weirdness continues to happen: I tried to type a single quotation mark above.

Tires make a difference. You can see the difference in my signature. Might want to try bumping the tire pressure up to max. sidewall. The OEM tires are LRR.

Low 40s for 5 miles is about what I would expect, especially if those 5 miles are at low speed. Blocking the grill should help but don't expect miracles.

The goal is to get the engine up to at least 150F quickly.

You can see what is happening by switching to the bar graph screen with 1 minute intervals. The first minute will be really low and each following minute should be higher.
