Yes, quick format. Could that be the problem?
Yes, all mp3s and they work from other drives.

Your next troubleshooting step is certainly a full (not quick) format. Quick format basically just resets the disc's basic directory and structure information and leaves everything else intact. Most of the time that'll probably be fine, but if you're having issues, a full format is in order.

Thanks Rob. I have done the full format and will try it when I get out to my car.
    Take care.

I have the same issue (songs try to play for a few seconds and then stop) with the same USB drive (PNY 8 GB). I have done a full format as well. Nothing works. I will try a different USB drive and see if it works. Did you ever get this particular brand to work?

Just went out and got a HP v165w 16 GB USB drive. It does the same thing, plays a few seconds of a song, shows the title and artist and then stops and doesn't show the song or artist anymore. I went to the dealership and put the USB drives in a new Prius C to see if it was just my car and the same thing happened there...any help would be greatly appreciated.

So I dropped off both USB drives at the dealership today. They will see if they can figure anything out, will keep you all posted...

I just called the dealer and they said one of their service techs loaded up a bunch of song on their USB stick and they played fine on every car they tested. So I told them that's why I brought you two different USB sticks, I thought maybe one was defective. Then I asked him if they had tried loading those same songs on MY drives...they said "No we didn't do that"...OMG!!!

So I politely asked him if he would load them onto my USB sticks and see if they would work. He said they would try that and get back to me.

Well the adventure continues...I stopped by the dealer again. He gave me a stick that they tried in all the cars on the lot and they said it worked. I tried it in my car and it was working, I found it interesting that they had only put 1 song on it because i tried to change tracks, but i guess they only loaded one. They asked me to take the stick home and load some songs on it from my computer to see if that was the problem. So I put it in my computer and saw they had 4 songs on it. So now I need to go back to them with a stick that only plays 1 track but has 4 on it and see if I can switch tracks on one of their cars...lol

I give up. neither of my USB drives work. The one I got from the dealer works fine but it is small. The only difference is my two can support readyboost. I have tried everything I can think of and nothing works...it plays 10 sec and stops...

I was going to get a new Head Unit anyways. looking at Kenwood DNX570HD with Alpine 6x9's in the rear and components in the fronr. I guess its time to get serious.

Yeah, I noticed that also. Doesn't matter what state the audio was in when I turned off the car; when I start up, it picks up with the USB drive mp3 playback. I haven't figured anything to do about that other than a knee-jerk push to the radio "Off" button immediately after pushing the car's "On" button.

I get all that, but that's not setup to take that and play it on another device that's where I'm getting confused. When you set up WMP isn't that play list for using within WMP?

With respect to playlists...you can also just type the filenames of the mp3 files into a text file and give it the extension of .m3u (e.g., "MyPlaylist.m3u", where first line is "File1.mp3" and the next line is "File2.mp3", etc.). See Wiki entry on .m3u files.
