My EV Driving ratio

    And it only took 31.8 gallon equivalent (15% charging loss included) of electricity to displace 78 gallons. We have net gain, made possible by the synergy drive.

    See this thread. You can monitor the PHV battery SOC%, ICE RPM, coolant temp, MG1 rpm/torque, MG2 rpm/torque, etc...

    That would defeat the purpose of Volt as it can do 100 mph on EV. Isn't it?

    What's your commute like? Speed, distance, charging, etc.

    I just noticed your stats is for the last 30 days. Do you have your car lifetime figures? I am assuming the kWh figure in the screenshot includes charging loss.

    Fuelly indicates you have filled up 30.17 gallons.

    the 50.8 MPG sounds about right because I've only made one highway trip since I had the PIP and that was when I took delivery of my PIP back in April. With another trip to the airport, trip to my son's house, trip to national plug in day event, trip to electric auto show, all about 100 miles round trip each. ( except the delivery of PIP trip)

    Not bad considering the long steep hills in our area. Since I took delivery morning temperatures have been in the low to mid thirties. As a result, most mornings the ICE by the time I reach the end of the driveway. According to the onboard computer outbound i am getting 80 mpg to 100 mpg. I at work I park in a heated garage. So far it is all EV on the way home. I am sure gas consumption will increase as the temperture falls.

    We are using excess solar production to cover the kWh required to charge our PIP.

    I have about a 45 mile commute. top speeds about 65mph but mainly < 50 mph.

    I usually get a full charge at a charging station in town using my EV subscription ($0.14/day)

    the lifetime stats for my particular vehicle are missing from MyVolt.com, particularily the total kWh.

    the screenshot includes calculated charging loss, the in vehicle display does not.

    I have consumed 25.+ gallons, mainly when my son was driving the car over the summer before he figured out where the charging stations were and before his employer put in a charging station. He's back at school in DC now.

    Have you been driving your Volt like a PiP or what? Those are pretty good data considering it is from a pretty heavy compact car.

    To reduce further confusion, this thread in the PiP forum. You guys can do similar thread under Volt forum.

    once voltstats is back up the volt owners use that for comparison between themselves.

    I think a civil comparison between PHEVs using some real world data can be worthwhile. EPA comparisons don't seem to cover the different driver profiles, like 85%+ EV ratios.

    understanding how people achieve the higher EV ratios can be informative, regardless of the vehicle.

    Yea, who would have thought a PiP can get 81% EV mile ratio. It would be great to compare the information between the two threads. I think it'll be less confusing that way.

    You guys probably know this but, driving with battery in Hybrid mode does not count for your EV ratio. Today, I ran out of battery at 12 miles when the ICE started. I went another 9.5 miles at 94 mpg on city streets, so I was coasting or on EV over half of the time, but my EV ratio miles stayed at 12.

    The Prius C shows the EV miles on its trip summary. It would be nice if the hatchback did the same.

    I see a lot of people using and assuming a 15% charging loss.

    First, has anybody actually measured this number?
    Second, why would you want to include the charging loss when you don't include gasoline delivery losses and evaporation of gasoline, etc? (Of course then you might need to include ~5-7% transmission losses for electricity; the oil shipping and refining losses...)

    Not real accurate, but here is my attempt at the charging losses. Chargepoint emails you a very accurate number of kw-hrs ...such as
    "The vehicle has accepted 2.944225 kWh and has been plugged in for 01:45:22 "

    (Hard to see how they can measure to millionth of a kw-hr)
    This was for a full charge. I've seen numbers from around 2.89 to 2.96 for a full charge. The battery has a capacity of 4.4 kw-hr, and reportedly it uses the range from 20-80% or 60% which is 2.64 kw-hrs. I don't know if this is correct, I think I've seen 2.7 in other places, but maybe it was rounded. Anyway 2.64/3 woud be 88% or a 12% loss. 2.64/2.9 is 91% or a 9% loss.

    the reason we use it is because we have to pay for the electricity. i estimate, but some measure with kilawatt.

    Yes, people have measured with Kill-a-watt to get the figure (3.1 - 3.2 kWh) from the wall. The car has 2.7 - 2.8 kWh usable energy so the 15% charging loss is a good general number to use.

    The reason I included the charging loss is because the EPA figures on the Monroe label includes charging loss for the electricity consumption (the 29 kWh/100mi and 95 MPGe figure). I don't think the 50 MPG on gas figure does not include delivery, evaporation losses or the energy required to pump the gasoline into the tank.

    That isn't accurate either... since there is no "empty" point it is starting from.

    HV capacity is replenished by the plug too.
