No matter how I press or hold them nothing changes on the display. Unfortunately nothing turns up for me on a google or PC search for this issue so that can't be good for an easy fix. I saw one thing about a bad switch but not details.

I just bought this 2010 Prius with 52k miles yesterday. Had no idea what these buttons even were when buying. Ideally the dealership will fix, but hopefully it's also in the realm of DIY. Thoughts?

ETA: Now I see that my hazards don't work either and assume that button is tied to same switch or fuse or whatever as the mode buttons. Sure I'm an idiot for not noticing that when I bought the car, but this gives me optimism that the dealership will make it right since it's a safety feature that they didn't disclose was nonfunctional. Obviously they didn't know either.

It doesn't show a mode so I assume it's just in the default normal mode. Just took the manual out and checked fuses. Nothing specifically points to the hazards or this set of buttons as a fuse and I couldn't find a blown one in the dash or engine. Didn't pull them all, but all other electronics seem to work.

    Try popping the panel up.

My guess is that maybe the previous owner had a Stage 10 push button shifter & when he traded it in didn't plug it back in

There are 2 plugs to look for. A Blk & a wht plug

OK thanks. I'll do that. I got it from a Mitsubishi dealer that is located next door to a Toyota dealer. I also assume they'll take care of it but if I can get the plastic popped up confidently then I'll try it myself 1st.

there's a thread here somewhere, with pics that instruct on installing the stage 10 shifter.

Look under the dash with a light, for signs of wire tampering.

This was it. The black plug under the panel was unplugged. Plugged it in and the EV functions and hazard light button now work. And now we know the white plug is only for the Park button.

Thanks all for helping me resolve this! Only down side is my fingers hurt a bit from trying to get that panel up.

And thanks for this too. Made the search easy for how to get the plastic panel up. I swear mine was harder to get off than everyone else's though.

I'm glad that's all it was. Disaster avoided :D

If the wht plug for the Park button was unplugged, it would of thrown a DTC & hybrid error
