Sharing my recent May 2019 electric bill because I think it important we understand our energy industry pricing methods across the US. And oh, if you like mine, maybe you'll consider moving to my neck of the woods (Reno/Lake Tahoe). Capture.JPG

PSS - "Time of Use" plan. Best rate is from 10PM-8AM. Applies to entire house usage, not just charging the Prime.

Ok basic service charge. Great kWh rates.

How much natural gas do you use per winter for the furnace and how much per therm?

$31.60 for an electric bill? Is this amount for 1 month and does it include the entire house's electricity use?

Reno/Lake Tahoe has mild temperatures at this time of year. No need for AC right now, maybe still need natural gas furnace at night. Most in that area use a lot more energy to heat their homes in winter than to cool them in summer.

    27 therms used for 1-30 May 2019. About 5 cents/therm + $14 monthly service charge.

That's is ridiculously low, and just awesome.

How does your power company differentiate between car charging and non car charging?

I had to check, for my May 2019 statement In WA state just east of Seattle, which I believe is usage for the month prior, my bill was $76, more than double yours, and I don't have an PHEV or EV. The month prior as reference was $128 due to usage of the gas furnace and cold weather.

I need to move to Reno.

They do not differentiate between home usage and EV charging. So one could run their dishwasher and dryer from 10pm-8am and benefit from the same rate. Our power company is Nevada Energy, part of Berkshire Hathaway.

Time traveller to the future, eh? :D

Understand it was for last month, bills often play fast and loose with the dates.

    Back-calculating I get $0.51/therm for you:
    ($27.74 gas total charge - $14 service charge)/(27 therms)

That's a bit closer to what we are charged, about $1.3-1.8/therm depending on the tier, only in rare cases get a gas service charge.

For the purposes of energy comparisons:
    1 therm = 29.3 kWh

So for your latest utility bill, you used 791 "kWh" to heat your home and water with gas for the same time period.

I don't count the service charge because that would be there even if I used zero therms and kWh. :D

In that case, comes out to $1.02/therm. Less than my neck of the woods.

You are right. Read the decimal point wrong.
