Well, it's been 1 year and 25,028 miles. According to Fuelly, my lifetime MPG is 56.1. My EV/HV ratio is 17% EV miles and 83% HV miles. I'm pretty pleased with this car and I don't have any regrets buying it.

Currently a full charge with fan (A/C) on gives me an estimated range of 9.2 miles. I expect this number to go back up as the weather improves. I've stopped stressing about the number and I've also stopped stressing about when to use EV or HV mode and I just simply drive it. What's more important to me is what my overall MPG number is for a tank.

That's all that matters. Leave the big numbers to the tweaks and those with a perfect commute. Just enjoy the ride. :)

    Congrats!

I'm jealous. Mine won't be celebrating a birthday for another 3 years. Purchases on February 29 make things interesting...

25k miles annually doesn't exactly exploit the plug. But then again, an effortless 56 MPG is quite nice.

25,000 miles a year means you reach 200,000 miles in only 8 years.

Sadly this is true. I wish I lived closer to work. I also wish the PiP had a bigger EV range. I got really spoiled when driving Jeff N's Volt, and then renting the RAV4 EV for a week. It gave me a taste for EV living. Perhaps in 5 or 6 years I'll be able to upgrade to something with more range. Or I'll move closer to work. Or both. Who knows?

I'm pretty happy with the 56 MPG. Given that my 2005 Prius was only getting between 42 & 44 MPG per tank, 56 MPG is a huge improvement.

The previous Prius racked up 161K miles in about 7.25 years, or just over 22K a year. Our 9 year old minivan has 200K miles on it now, again about 22K miles a So the amount of miles I'm putting on the PiP is not out of the ordinary for us.

Congrats birthday boy. :) Have you had ANY problems at all, mechanically/electrically in that year? (Probably a stupid question...after all this is a Toyota.)

Just imagine how young your plug-in will be when it is only three years old! :)

I took delivery one year ago yesterday also. Total miles 12,595; EV/HV 29/71; overall 83 mpg since new. No problems, no service beyond normal tire rotations and one oil change. Life is good.(y)

No problems at all. Even my Entune update via the USB drive last year went off without a hitch

    Congrats!

Can you post your EV Driving Ratio screen? I am curious about the breakdown efficiency of both electric and gas miles.

My car turned 1 on 3/1 (actually, like John it was really 2/29 I suppose). Here's my 1 year screenshot.. however, its missing the first 2 fillups because I had to disconnect the battery when replacing the steering wheel. But here are all the numbers:

    1 year pip_forum.jpg

This screen was reset on 4/22/2012, but here's the data (from the driving ratio screen) prior to 4/22/2012:

    212 kWh
    14 gallons of gas consumed
    17.7 gallons saved
    981 EV miles (59% EV)
    669 HV miles (41% HV)

    Total for the year:

    1245 kWh
    44 gallons consumed
    104 gallons saved
    5690 EV miles (75% EV)
    1937 HV miles (25% HV)
    7627 total miles

    Calculations:

    44.02 HV MPG
    94.23 MPGe (using 33.7 kWh/gallon)

I'll leave the watts/mile calculation to someone more familiar with the current "charging loss" percentage :)

Someone will point out how my HV gas mileage sucks.. and I agree. But that boils down to 2 reasons:

    1. Most of the time my ICE is running its either for warm-up or when I'm going up the ~2 mile hill to my house

    2. When the ICE is on because I've run out of EV miles, generally speaking, I dont really care about my HV gas mileage.. not enough to TRY to get 50MPG versus, say, 45MPG

And if you arent familiar with my driving pattern, I drive ~13 miles to and from work. The difference in elevation from my house to work is 600ft. Going to work is downhill. I charge at home on a Level 2 charger and I charge at work using 120V (soon to be Level 2 I hope).

44 MPG on gas, 154 MPGe on electricity and 94 MPGe blended overall is great. The EV ratio is even more impressive. :)

If we include 10% charging loss, your electricity efficiency come out to 140 MPGe.

I can post the pic, but it'll give you a slightly inaccurate reading since it accidentally got reset at the beginning of the car's life, so it's off by about 300 or so miles.

    Gas Efficiency - 49 MPG
Electricity Efficiency - 132 MPGe (120 MPGe with 10% charging loss)

Those include a week of Jeff N's driving for the switchero right?
