My Prius C HID and LED installation adventure thread!! (lots of Pics!)

I'm glad I came across this website. I bought a Xenon Supply HID kit and was very simple to install (and I am not mechanically-skilled at all). I bought the 6000k color and I'm really happy with it. It has a very slight light-blue tint, but nothing obnoxious like I see on souped-up civics and lifted trucks driving around. It looks great with the C's projectors and really looks stock. I'm not worried about getting pulled over at all.

 

I just changed my Xenon Supply kit with the Morimoto Elite with the H11 xb bulb. I actually like the color better as it matches my LEDs. The brackets on the ballasts are a plus. Here's before after pics.

 

I had the same kit and loved it. The quality is unsurpassed.

Coincidently, I have the kit for sale in the FS forum too because I sold my C.

What's the value to changing from the XS to the Morimoto version

 

In my opinion, overall quality of product. But as far as output, most likely about the same.

 

Here's a pic of the 6000K Morimoto XB bulbs. Matches perfectly with my V-LEDs.

 

Has anyone come up with a resolution to the LED rear turn signal situation? I recently purchased some amber LEDs to replace my rear signals, but they simply did not even blink regardless of polarity (no load resistor added). I proceeded to add a load resistor, but they still refused to blink. I tried with two different bulbs and neither worked.



Would something like that work? They're advertised as error free, so I'm assuming they may work if I remove my load resistors. We do use 7440s for our rear turn signal bulbs right?

 

My DRLs are also no longer working now that I have LEDs in my license plate area. I also put in LED reverse lights too. Does anyone have any ideas?

 

I have a similar experience. My DRLs quit working after I had temporarily unplugged some lighting wiring harnesses. But after a few power on/off cycles they came back to life.

I believe that the main computer gets wonky when things aren't right. But after a four or five restart cycles it rights itself.

 

Well, I took out the license plate LEDs and put the stock ones back in still nothing. But I didn't cycle it. However, my high beams still work. I never use DRLs anyway so I'm not too worried about it right now.

 

How were you checking to see if DRL was working or not? DRL only works when the car is in "Ready" mode with the emergency brake down.

I have literally replaced all of my bulbs excluding the turn signals and it never affected the DRLs or any other system in that case.

 

I put the car in Ready mode but my emergency brake was up! I will try that and report back!

To the OP did you use the accessory relay wiring harness?
Per the website:
Power your HID kit directly from the battery! The Accessory Wiring harness is used to isolate the HID system from the vehicle by running all power directly from the battery with an independent 30 Amp fuse. This is an optional installation item for the Toyota Prius.

Can someone explain the benefits of this and if they used it? Wanting to upgrade to a 4300k hid setup safely.
About 3 years ago I installed a cheap hid kit on a mini cooper and it blew the low beams and caused electrical issues. Car only had high beams then on. I don't want to risk doing that again.

 

You guys might want to check out my professional Lexus HID retrofit. See my sig. Uses all Genuine Toyota/Lexus parts (except for the dual relay harness which is generic) See the link in my signature.

 

The benefits of using a relay wiring harness is so that the stock wiring and electric system does not blow up or get ruined like your Mini Cooper

Okay, so I bought the lights off ebay, tried to replace them, one fell inside during the procedure. Had to remove the assembly to take it out. The mechanic who helped me out told me not to replace the original lights with LED. The lens of the head light will melt! he says. So I had to keep the original lights.

Any idea what the maximum heat the lens could take, i really would like to put the lights ASAP.

 

BS, the lens is glass. It would take incredible heat to melt it.

Unless he's talking about the headlight cover, which is polycarbonate?
