Not even remotely close. You're thinking of the roughly 14-15 pounds (or other mass unit of your choice) of air per pound of gasoline. A pound of air occupies a lot more volume than a pound of gasoline.

You better check your oil or have it checked. Pronto. Your car may be burning oil the way mine is.

My apologies. The board wouldn't post my message, so I tried again several times.

The warning is "low oil pressure", but it is pretty much synonymous with low oil level. Have you been regularly checking and topping it up?

How many miles again? I recall you were having your share of woes, just can't remember the particulars.

+++++1 on that. I've had the wonderful experience a few times of checking oil on different cars and there's nothing on the dipstick, but still not low enough to trigger the warning light.

About 10 years back, I purchased an old 1975 right hand drive postal jeep from a seller in St Louis. Towed it back to Columbia, SC using my old reliable 1995 F150 with 260+k miles on it, a 300 I6 and dual fuel tanks. The mountains were tough on that poor engine. When I got local, I stopped for gas. I turned down the radio and all I could hear was a loud clacking noise. Uh-oh....checked the oil and oops. Took 3.5 quarts to get back in the lines. Found that all the piston ring blow-by had actually popped the oil pan gasket out over a section about 4 inches long. The front of that jeep and the U-haul tow dolly were very well lubricated. Thought for sure she was a goner. The truck didn't even blink and is still going today with 290k. Just put a new battery in it about a month ago.

The car as 210k on the clock,it started consuming oil from when it was at around 160k..... I now do a full change of oil at about 7k to 8k .

Other problems are a rattling sound at low speed on acceleration from somewhere under the engine or the back of it ,it sounds like a diesel car noise if you know what I mean,it goes mostly away if I unplug the egr valve.

The low oil pressure light should not be used as a reminder to add oil. It should be viewed as an alert that the engine is experiencing irreparable damage due to oil starvation.

Other problem ? Seems like its more than just other problem.
many of us had this other problem . ended in replacing head gasket.
