There is a big difference between a motor that started using synthetic oil for the first time @ 40k miles...
And a motor that has been using synthetic oil since new!!!

    No there isn't.
There are a lot of other factors involved but generally that is NOT true.
Where did you get that idea ??

    ski.dive, thank you for sharing!

I think there are at least two other factors to ask about to get the results mentioned:

Fuel quality, ie. Top Tier or not, grade?

    Air filter/Air quality?

Driving style is a variable I’ll ask in another way:

What average MPG are you getting please?

I learned from somewhere as an example silicate (from dirt) contaminates engine oil when a poor efficiency air filter is used.

I use a dry synthetic aFe filter which may allow more contaminants through the intake.

Myself mostly. It's something to do every 6 months, costs me around $21 CDN.

My engine and cabin air filters are 9.5 years on the car. And I just replaced the front wiper blades. C'mon, let me in.

No partials. You must go through great lengths to never spend any dime that does not need spending.

    On my 2008 /110K MILES------I average 43.8MPG & I run the Prius hard.

    I use Regular 89 fuel,
I always change the engine and cabin filters once a year,
original traction battery, ORIGINAL SPARK PLUGS,
+++Always running on Valvoline synthetic oil since new!

those filters are a lot more expensive than oil, but mine look like new after 10k/1 year

I can throw my $.02 in on this. My brother has a 2004 F150 that is knows for an engine failure that has to do with tiny oil journals that get plugged up with oil sludge. This doesn't happen however with synthetic oil.

So my conclusion is that there is a difference. A dino oil engine is all sludged up all over the place whereas a synthetic only engine is not. What I do when I buy a car I do all my oil changes with synthetic and a quart of Marvel Mystery Oil just because they claim it is a cleaner. Is it? Hell I don't know for sure. I just take their word for it in hopes that I'll get the engine there.

Of course there is a difference in the oils.
But in most cases it is NOT enough of a difference for the engine (not a motor) to show any noticeable difference after only 40K miles. It just isn't.

Then......MMO is a very light oil. It will dilute the viscosity of your base oil. Putting in a whole quart is way too much.
If you MUST do that, consider reading the label and cutting back on the amount.
If you use good synthetic oil, there really is NO reason to add anything.

Well then you shouldn't have brought it up in the first place.
Synthetic oils have several advantages over conventional oils.
But basic wear protection is NOT one of them.......in general.
No arguement. That is a fact.

P.S. You need to work on your post quoting.

I meant in the engines which was the original post by ski.dive. He said something like:

"There is a big difference between a motor that started using synthetic oil for the first time @ 40k miles...
And a motor that has been using synthetic oil since new!!!"

I gave you an example of an engine who's never used synthetic was all sludged up.

There are exceptions to every rule.
    That situation is NOT typical.

And what kind of mileage was on that 15 year old truck ?
I bet it was a LOT more than 40K.

Yeah I seriously doubt going to a synthetic is going to keep your piston rings from clogging. The spec'd Prius c and 3rd gen Prius oil in 0W20, and that's invariably synth. And they are getting clogging, and oil burning as a consequence, anywhere past 100K miles.

Toyota piston and ring design is more likely culprit.

No idea probably a lot. That may or may not matter though. I doubt sludge builds up one day. An engine with 40k on it will have 40k worth of sludge and who would know what damage because of it.

OP has yet to clarify if he's talking about oil-on-dipstick or a jar of oil. For good reason I think...
