Traffic was heavy but steady and slow (30-50 MPH) and I seemed to get all of the traffic lights in my favor. I feel compelled to say that I got gas and then hit the reset button so my engine was warm already before leaving for work but getting 78.8 MPG's was still interesting to see.

    Nice job First Flight. :D

BTW. Is there much change in elevation involved on the route, or is it roughly equal ups and downs.

This is in Northern New Jersey where there are a lot of hills. My work is definitely at a lower elevation than where I live. 78.8 is not normal with my commute. I usually get something like 68 but with the flow of traffic and the lights, it worked out well. Going back home I will probably get something like 58-60 MPG's.

It's an awesome way to start the day to hit all the lights in your favor and achieve awesome mileage. Great job.

Unfortunately, you will drive yourself insane trying to repeat it tomorrow and all next week and throughout the summer. Good luck with that. :D

Yeah, pretty much. Maybe one day I'll get that again.

F8L - I don't have a Droid phone but the app looks really cool. I do have Google maps and it looks like the app is based off of that so maybe there is a spinoff for my phone - Sprint HTC TouchPro 2

Isn't the Touch Pro 2 Android based?

It looks like it covers the same stuff but probably better since it functions with Google Earth. It would be worth the $5. :)

Awesome! It would be nice to find alternatives to the My Tracks program. Get that graph posted up! ;)

And congrats on the numbers. I have never gotten that high yet.

I'm about to leave work now. I bet my MPG's go wayyyyyyy down. I'll post a pic so you can see my MPG on a round trip to work. 78.8 MPG is an anomaly but something I always strive for!

No way around it, 78.8 MPG is an enviable demi-achievemnet in a Gen II.

It's for reasons like this, altitude changes, that one-way MPG figures
are nice but not meaningful over the long run. Which is to say, out-and-
back, round trip numbers. My altitude change from home to work is
~350 ft. in ~ 18 miles. Morning MPG is wonderful -- my best is 72.+ --
but then I have to climb those 350 ft. in the evening. If all goes well,
I'll loose only 10 MPGs when I get to my driveway.

Other factors also contribute to skewed one-way MPGs. These include:
    * wind direction and strength, cross winds always bad
    * the shape of hills; short climbs, long descents are best for MPGs
    * air temps -- air density, tire pressure changes, heat and airco use
    * traffic -- as you noted -- volume and velocity
    * differing traffic light timing
    * driver affects; concentration, attentiveness, fatigue, etc.

All that said, you're doing well.
    Keep up the good work.
    :cheer2:

    Good Job FF,

That is truely what a 2nd Gen is capable of driving with the wind, in the 30 to 50 mph regime. I have done that quite a few times. Getting a whole tank over 70 is the next milestone.

Too bad my 2010 is not as good. Although, its up to 65 indicated so far this spring, which was the best it did last fall before the weather changed. So that is improvement.....
