Yeah, God bless that guy with the fish-eye lens that snapped and posted that pic. Here, a few years back.

The rear safety stand points are easier to see in practice. There's an oblong plastic insert in a hole right there, and an extra layer of heavy gauge steel plate lapping over the regular sheet metal. The oblong hole's for some locator pin during shipping or assembly I think? Dealerships typically install those plastic plugs during PDI I was told (one was missing on ours).

Anyway, there's a sort-of hump of heavy plate there, and it works well with the cradle of a safety stand.

I just use the rear beam;).

The only real reason I jack the back up and need to access anything is the wheels or brakes, so the beam works well and is level:).

But your location is robust as well(y).

This sounds like it has the potential for a New Year's Eve gathering in the making?

Let me know if you need another vehicle onsite to justify the block of time being requested ;)

My floor jack doesn't reach the front or rear jacking points :(

I ended up actually using the pinch weld and it held up (but the ones on my friend's car did not)

It's gotta reach the front point, lol. Rear, I agree: you squander a lot of any jack's travel just getting to the jacking point.

Over the years I've come up with a few strategies. One was to build a cradle of 2x4's on edge, held together with threaded rods, put my jack up on that. And a couple of sheets of particle board, matching dimension, to lay on top. But it's a pain to drag out.

With the rear jacking point now I'm using a cheapo 3 ton jack with pretty good range, and to reduce it's initial travel, I put a square piece of 2x4 in the steel crade, on the flat, and a hockey puck atop that. The jack itself has a spec'd max lift of 21" IIRC, I suspect it's more like 20" with load. It cost me $69 one boxing day, lol.

Here's a few pics. The steel cradle with shims I use at the rear, and the rubber pad with shims, used on the front. With the front I first raise a bit without shims, then lower, then put in the shims. The first raise tends to leave the car a little higher, allows the shims to fit.

Mine won't take long, the block of time is the window I can possible arrive because with all the traffic to be in sf New Year's Eve. There's no way I can arrive at a specific given time with that traffic. I'm hoping this won't take no longer than 30 min for both front wheels. :)
