I also explained to them that the faster you go the less EV range you're going to get. I told them about my trip out west where I charged overnight at a motel then in the morning got on the freeway, accelerating to 76 MPH whereupon my EV range ended at about 14 miles before ICE kicked in. then I continued to tell them I did an experiment where I drove up and down a side street going only 15 MPH till I ran out of EV (which was 46 miles EV)

I went 2,000+ miles before my first tank of gas. I can live with the embarrassment. ;)

With the plugshare chart, I explained I'd gotten 2,100 miles on my third tank. I filled it in January and didn't refuel until July because I was planning a trip to Knoxville.

Referencing the plugshare map, I pointed out I would drive to work in EV and then either take a lunch break at a free charger or on the way home, buy groceries or something on the way home and get an hour charge. Then home again and recharge over night. This made sense to them.

The only Toyota at the event I attended was a RAV4 EV.

This was my case as well. A Rav-4 EV from 2002. Really shows Toyota’s dedication.

Early in the show we had two Prius Primes but the other one left after an hour or so. Yet the local Toyota dealer sent two sales men and a box of 'green bags.'

The first show I went to on Friday, when it was time to go home the Freudenburg-Nok people handed out swag bags full of goodies, in it was a $25.00 gift card for the drivers that gave rides to the guests:D

along with leaf pens and Freudenberg-nok pens, freudenberg nok fidget spinners, two different water bottles. (leaf and nok)

The Chevy salesman had two Visa gift cards which I split with the other organizer who put up the insurance money and I bought the tent. He also gave us two "oil change" vouchers so I asked him to put one in the Bolt and the other went to another EV driver.

Except pure EV owners either have another gas car on the driveway or a car rental number in their cell phone contact list.

About twice a year a pure EV advocate will chat us up about renting a gasser if we need to go on a vacation. Do you need references?

    Ok:
    • Bolt owner (Ron) Saturday - has multiple, luxury gas vehicles and planned to keep them.
    • Leaf owner (Christine) where I used to work - family has a gas engine vehicle too as well as her husband gas car.
    • Tesla owner (David) in Prius Technical Stuff - also has a gas truck to transport his other gas vehicles, motorcycles.
    • Facebook "BMW i3 Worldwide Group" - discussions of buying BEV vs REx
    • BMW i3 Forum - Search
The bulk of comments recommending rental that I see are not in PriusChat since Toyota doesn't really have an EV. Rather it is in the BMW forums where the BMW i3 comes in two flavors: BEV and REX. When someone is deciding between a BEV or REX, we typically see the BEV advocates endorse renting an ICE for cross country trips. Then of course BMW has an ICE rental program too.

I attended the event in Morristown, NJ with my Advanced model and got positive responses. As expected, a lot of people (especially children) reacted favorably to the tablet screen. People also commented on how much interior space there is in the Prime and liked the rear seat legroom. A couple of people commented on the new exterior design and made statements along the lines of "this is a Prius?" In short, people's reactions to the Prime were positive. There were two people who said they liked the look of the car, but due to the size of their family they needed a five-seat vehicle. That is more than understandable. There was also one guy who said he thought he had his mind made up on a Volt, but now he was undecided.
