My new Prime, built in 1/17, bought in 4/17. This weekend I took it on the Mass Pike, and was warned about the toll booths ahead.

The road has been updated and the toll booths have been removed in a project that has been going for a year or so.

This is not abnormal. Especially on construction projects, even long term ones. Go into Google Maps and see if it shows updated info. If it does not, then Navteq probably does not have the info yet either and the next map refresh won't have the change. If it is in Google Maps, then Navteq may have the changes and it's a crap shoot as to whether the next Toyota refresh will have it. Toyota map updates come out once a year in the fall. Even Garmins that get quarterly updates can take time for these changes to show up.

toyota nav is old, even from the factory. updates are about five years behind the real world.

think about it, they have one employee who travels the whole country mapping the roads. google has thousands.

    Yes.....and.....????

    That is not unusual.

Regardless of what brand of GPS you have, it seems to be common for the database to be around 6 to 12 months behind on major routes.......and sometimes several years on "neighborhood" street changes.

Typically the "online" GPS services like Google Nav have more current map data.

    Well it was ridiculous.
Do you REALLY think that Toyota does their own GPS database ? And they have one person driving around doing that ??
    Honestly ??

Connect with your Entune on your phone and data plan. If there's a required update, it will let you know. This is only for the app suite. The dealer has to do the major firmware updates via Techstream.

PS, if you have a limited data plan, connect to your home WiFi on your phone and then check for updates. Also if you see an Entune App update from the PlayStore come out, there is "almost" always a vehicle update to go with it. None of my phone apps are allowed to auto install so I always know when they come out.

It can take time for the map to be updated. That being said, I've noticed discrepancies between the Toyota map database and my TomTom (Both TomTom and my nav were last updated in 2012 with 2011 maps and the database is slightly different even though they both use TeleAtlas).

Also, a digital map (that isn't online like Google Maps) takes time to process (which was one of the advantages touted by paper mapmakers - publishing paper maps is quicker) so you're always almost 2 years behind. Toyota releases maps at the end of the year (somewhere between Sept and Dec).

e.g. I bought my 2010 Prius in August 2009 so it came with 2008 maps. Those who bought their 2010 Prius in 2010 (at least if their car was built in Oct 2009 or later) would've had the 2009 maps.

So you have to go to a dealer to get the maps updated? Has anyone done this yet?

No you don't need to on the 2017 Prius Prime. If you look in your manual, it shows you the location of the Map Data card. You'd first look at your map info screen (not the card) to see what map version you have, and only then order an updated version from the dealer or on-line. It' easy to plug in. The new versions come out late fall every year and they run about $169. Personally, I'd not even think about updating yours until next year.

Some Toyotas do not use the SD card method and have to be doe at the dealer, but not your vehicle.

And not any of the '17 models either......I assume.
My C has the SD card.
That may have started with some '16 models.

    department.

I don't know for sure if or when it completely cut over. In 2014 it was trim level based on some but not others. The 2014 4Runner Trail Premium had the SD card but the 2014.5 Camry Hybrid XLE has to be installed into the head unit by the service.

All SD card vehicles makes sense and is less cost for Toyota to support.

The most recent map card I got also has the Entune Audio firmware update on it. Not full system update.

SD card based came out in 2014, starting with the Corolla. (and I guess 4Runner by Mark57's account). Any car with the "MY14 Entune" headunit will be SD card based (different from the previous DVD or HDD based systems or even the flash-based Display Audio systems with 6.5" screens)
