Can someone explain the shielding in these diagrams to me?

I know it connects at Splice Point I5, but is the VG signal wire uninterrupted or is it exposed to the shielding?
    Is it THE shielding wire?

    Thanks for any input?

Looks like VG is the shield. Interesting that they terminate it both at the multi-display and at the nav ECU. In Gen 3 they often seem to let shields float at one end (thinking of the runs between the head unit and the JBL amp, for example), presumably to avoid creating a ground loop.

Also interesting that both shields (for the video and for the AVC-LAN pair) are joined at the multi-display end, but only the video shield terminates at the ECU end.

    I don't have an explanation, but that's what they're showing. :)
