I guess your car recognizes your voice better than mine does. If I enter the names of two streets, it never understands both of them. If I want to find Home Depot and ask for "home improvement", it will list "Bob's hardware" and "Joe's Nursery", but never the Home Depot or Lowes right around the corner. As for bluetooth, it recognizes some names in my phone, but I never could get it to recognize "mom", or "mother". In short, I'm very disappointed with the voice recognition, so I'm gonna buy the plug and play workaround for the nav.

Also, you can't initiate the voice commands for navigation while your moving, however, if you initiate the input of an address (via voice commands) while stopped, it will allow you to finish the sequence. This okay in town, but still leaves you without the capability of changing/modifying your destination while traveling on the highway, without pulling off the road.

Personally, I find it much more dangerous trying to merge back into heavy, highspeed highway traffic, than it is to search the navigation device for what eating establishments are off the up-coming off-ramps down the road!

First post here after buying a Prius v Three - been lurking for the last 2 months. I soldered a bunch of stuff together, put a DPDT switch to cut power when not bypassed (as noted above) in the blank by the lighter outlet. It has a blue LED (cut from a 3 meter SMD strip) just above the toggle. Thanks to the OP for doing the hard work, posting instructions, links to schematics, and component calculations. Photos are here.

    Hi there,

I tried reproducing cproaudio's harness with a 1M and 1K ohm resistor. I tested with an LED What i got was a very slow flashes. I would say, it is about 3 seconds on constant, then like 3 seconds off. Is this normal? I hooked up the led (-) and the 555 timer (-) to ground, 555 timer (+) to 12v. Then led (+) to pin 3.

I am going to jump on fixing my setup this weekend as I install my new leather steering wheel. I will update when or if it works again!

I've been working to add some safety modifications to my car. I want to be able to activate my rear camera while I'm driving, to check the blind spots. A speed-sensor over-ride will be necessary, but the products I've seen for sale are very expensive. If anyone has plans for building one, I'd like to know. Thanks in advance.

Yes this is normal. faster flash will increase the simulated speed. If you don't mind the nav showing 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 kmh on the service menu then change the 1M resistor to a lower resistor value. 1M ohm is a nice round number. It's not to high and not too low. Don't use anything lower than 30k ohm. From my research, around 30K ohm is about the lowest limit you can do while still producing a slow enough signal bypass the speed lock.

I'm building the override circuit for my Prius (2010, V with ATP) and asked a friend of mine if he was interested in having one for his Prius (2012, III, no nav). We got to talking about the details and wonder what would be the effect if he simply cuts the VSS lead on his system. Is there any 'hidden' GPS to detect the lack of signal and keep the audio and phone screens locked out? Do you think the Prius would detect the lack of signal and permanently lock out those features?

Toyota's nav system is pretty smart. If it detects no signal or false signal, it reverts to GPS satellite signal for speed. Once you go above 5MPH, it relocks all the buttons. This is true for undetectable VSS signal such as cutting the VSS wire and grounding the VSS or feeding +12V to the VSS wire. This has been documented in post 103 of this thread. I have also confirmed this during my research.

You missed the fact that my friend doesn't have the nav system in his Prius. What do you think might happen in his car if the VSS signal is cut?

Thanks for the tip. I saw the youtube video andnit was flashing much faster so i thought there was something else with the one i made. Ill give it a try later on my navi. 2015+ PIP's vss wire is the purple one?
