I tried a couple of eBay sellers for center caps for my 2016 Four. One set was too small and one set was too big. Now I am willing to wait until someone finds the "Goldilocks" fit. I plan on painting the caps black to compliment my black and white theme.

Just out of curiousity, how much are they through the dealership? Don't ask, lol?

The sense I get: a center cap costs what a wheel cover should be, a wheel cover costs what an alloy rim should be, and an alloy rim? Don't ask.

I didn't think to ask, since the wheels come with full wheel covers.

This is what came with our stock 3rd gen 17" rims, I'd strongly suspect they're compatible. I make the outside dia at the jaws 55.36 mm.

On my rims I make the inside dia 54.00 mm, more-or-less spot-on, and there's an interior groove for the cap jaws, down about 1/4".

Those look like the ones I got on eBay. The groove "catch" was too short to latch on.

Measuring on my OEM caps, as near as I can eyeball, it's 1/4" from the inside lip of the cap to the first peak of the jaw. Maybe the groove is down a little further on the new one?

If you look for 3rd gen center caps on eBay/Amazon I think you would be looking for 57mm.

Yeah, they're probably referring to the greatest OD, at the outer face of the cap. Mine measure 56.80 mm.

@krmcg, those lugnuts look different too. Can you post a closeup of the lugnuts as well? The oem lugnuts on our Camry/Gen 3 Prius has a slightly domed, smooth top. Yours look like they have a cup, almost like they are open-ended.

The lug nuts look like they're the same as Gen III. However the center caps that fit my Gen iii 15" wheels don't fit the Gen IV wheels. They're *very* close, but just a hair to big. It has something to do with where the retention groove is (or isn't). They felt as if maybe I could have jammed them in with enough force - but I wasn't in the mood to execute such a move last night.

So, looks like I'll be sticking with the wheel covers for a bit. They don't look too bad... :)

The retention ring is different. The cap I jammed on broke a tooth and would not stay on.

Good to know. So there is a groove, but it's slightly shifted, meaning 3rd gen centre caps don't work. Did you check with a Toyota parts department, is there a centre cap available?

Maybe Toyota's trying to discourage owners taking their wheel covers off, with little tricks like this.

That was what I had feared would happen if I tried any harder than I did. What a bummer. Maybe cut off the tooth and use some hot glue (or epoxy)?

It seems that way, but if that were the case, I would have guessed they'd just use cheaper steel wheels. I mean, they go through all the trouble to make *Alloy* wheels, and then cover them. I just don't get the logic.

It's funny too, from 2012 through 2015 they painted the alloys black.

When we bought late in 2010 it was "say what, there's alloy rims under those wheel covers?" That tipped us to get the 17" rim Touring model, in Canada.

FWIW, there's a steel Corolla rim that works.

    Imperical evidence that they fit?

Empirical evidence that what fits with what? That is, I don't understand your last question (or statement)... ;-)

lar.smith42 posted a link to a Toyota center cap. I was asking if there was actual evidence that it fit the 2016 15" wheels.

Oh, OK - Now I understand. Sorry for being slow on the uptake. I'll bet that they *don't* fit. They're specified as fitting a 2010 Prius (among other Toyotas). The Center caps that *did* fit my 2010 *don't* fit my 2016. :-(
