I lost a wheel cover and ordered a used OEM replacement, but am having a time installing it. It's plastic, of course, so I'm very afraid of breaking off the clips. Thought I could just tap it in place with a rubber mallet, but one side always pops loose. I viewed a YouTube installation video (for a different vehicle) and the plastic wheel cover included a wire loop that went around the plastic clips, presumably to hold them in place. I didn't receive a wire hoop. Should I have? Is that part of the OEM wheel covers? If not, do you have any suggestions for installing this without breaking anything off?

Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

Are you sure it's the correct size?
Maybe the tabs are bent. Compare it to one of the other ones and see if they are the same.

One side will pop back out 50% of the time when smashing it in. I rotate my own tires and thats a common thing. I just use brute fist force, rubber mallet is too soft.

Is the wheel cover the exact same as the others on your car otherwise?

Maybe swing by the dealerhip, have them install it. They're accustomed to installing them, should be able to tell if it's defective in some way. It should be a very quick thing, so maybe they'll do it for free?

Lol, and get charged $135 an hour for less than 5 minutes of work because they have a one hour minimum? No thanks! Stay away from criminal stealerships at all costs unless it's a warranty or recall issue!

It certainly appears to be exactly the same and the correct size. It even has the Toyota logo in the center. None of the tabs/clips appear to be bent.

I have to agree with PriusCamper, my dealership charges for the tiniest things and $60 for an oil change! so no joy there. But the NTB down the street fixed a flat for me for free so I might take it in to them and see what they say. Can't hurt. Still, it irks me that I can't just tap this thing in. <sigh>

I had a door latch that clicked the wrong way, door wouldn't close. I drove it to the dealership (door taped shut), a mechanic walked out, showed me how to flip the latch back to proper position, 5 minutes, no charge.

The initial poster is a 68 year old lady; I've got a feeling they'll help her out for free. Doesn't hurt to ask.
