Need to change key battery, will a 2032 work the same as 1632?

This will be the first time I change the battery in the keyless entry fob. I can get a better deal on the 2032 battery but the battery in my key fob is a 1632. Are they the same or will only the 1632 one work?

I think I found the answer. The 2032 is a little bigger so it won't fit. Oh well.

You can get these batteries anywhere....even jewelers that replace watch batteries will stock them.

LOL... "a better deal"??? Those batteries cost only a couple dollars a piece at most. You buy it in multiples, it is about $1 each or less. How much saving were you expecting?

I saw one for 4.35 and a 5 pack for 3.99 at Walmart. I will check out the 99 cent store for the 1632 ones. I have a 2015 Prius and the battery is a 1632 so I just assume I can only use 1632.

    Yap, 1632 and 2032 are different size 16x3.2mm vs. 20x3.2mm. They are not interchangeable. I looked it up, there are some 1632 replacement batteries though. CR1632 are Replacement for: RN-CR1632, BR1632, KL1632, DL21632, ECR1632, 1632, L1632, NSN - 6135-01-452-8160:

I also ignored it for months but now it's gotten to the point where I need to use my key to open the door. I found that opening the key fob makes it work a little better and it mostly recognizes the battery but it's much easier to just get a replacement. Thanks for your posts.

You're overthinking this. Just buy 1 and be done. Buying more to save a few bucks isn't worth the added clutter. You'll probably end up misplacing the extras anyway by the time you need them again. Or at least I would...

The 1632 is available on Amazon although you must be careful to avoid Chinese fakes. I’ve replaced each our key fob batteries twice in 6 years, or about every 2 years. The “Use By” date is 2024, so I think if did make sense to puchase the package.

Unless you are organized and have a box or drawer where you put all your extra batteries and label them with what they are for. Like in the above picture posted while I was typing

They are fake in name only. They are all made in China or somewhere in the Far East and labeled with brand names only to sell for a higher price.

@Georgina Rudkus , I cannot agree as the quality control for the lowest-priced Chinese manufacturers seems particularly poor, whereas electronics that are made in Japan or Taiwan seem to be much better on the whole. Battery packs for electric bicycles that have Chinese lithium-ion cells are about 40% cheaper than the exact same vendor’s proffered versions that are said to have Sanyo li-ion cells made in Japan. Purchasing batches of LED flashlights from China I had a 20% or 1 out of 5 failure rate, whereas versions from Japan or Taiwan, while noticeably more expensive, had 0 failures. Back to point: when searching for the 1632 replacement batteries, I carefully read all the reviews to screen out what appeared to be the cheap Chinese knockoffs versus what were apparently ones made in Japan—one clue is the quality of the packing material, another was the presence or absence of a “use by” date, and the final one was the proportion of the batteries purchased that were “Dead On Arrival”.

I've bought CR2032 coin cells from China for over 10 years. Every one that I've got has been good. That's not to say that other products have the same reliability record.
