If he is well enough on Friday, I plan to stop by the hospital to visit him.

    Justin,
By now you're probably in the recovery room and I just want to let you know you're in my thoughts and I hope today's operation puts you on the road to recovery!!!!

You have a fantastic winning attitude that is going to beat cancer, and I'm rooting for you and praying with everybody else for your full recovery and return to a great healthy life!! My Plug-in Prius arrives this Spring and if you can make it up to Oakland you can drive it off the lot for me, then maybe we can add a couple of mods to it so that you'll always be part of that car from the get-go. Something in difficulty between floor mats and a new exhaust -- maybe a headlight upgrade?

Get well, my friend! Life is a long road ahead for you!!!

Nah, you'd do the same. :)

The reddish tube coming from underneath my gown is a tube inserted through my ribs to aid in draining fluids in my lung cavity. The noises coming from the box it drains into sounds like a fish tank. It is rather soothing.

If you go home with the tube still in place, take care of it like they tell you. I ended up with a MRSA infection at a drain site about a week after I got home. It's nothing to be paranoid about, just take care of the drain.

When a nurse comes around to wake you up in the middle of the night, look into her eyes with a confused/concerned look and ask her if she is an angel.:D

    Oops forgot the update.

So the surgery went very well. They successfully removed the entire upper lobe of my left lung with complication. The surgeon said that he could not identify any additional tumors on the lobe they removed nor the lower lobe that is still intact. This means that if the pathology report confirms what he observed visually then I will likely be taking a break from chemo until something shows up sometime in the future. For now I'm just looking forward to a chemo-free spring filled with a lot of traveling and hiking! :) ohh and driving a plug-in Prius in Oakland. ;)

That would be quite the scare. Fortunately I will stay in here until I am sealed up so I won't be going home with the tube. It will be nice to get rid of the catheter too!

Right now my nurse is an older Irish man so I will have to save your advice for later use.

That's good news, wouldn't want to have rumors in your lungs, rumors spread rapidly.:D

I'm really glad you are OK and get a chemo free spring, a hopefully a chemo free forever.

Yay!! Best news I've had all day. Probably you too, Justin. ;)

Get some sleep and stop flirting with those nurses. You wouldn't want to pop any stitches. :D

    I hope the catheter's flexible.

Aye, I just traded the Irish guy for a Filipino guy. :p

Hyo, no flirting. My girlfriend is too good to me to be disrespectful to her. ;) The catheter is pretty handy at the moment. I have too many tubes and wires coming out of me to deal with the hassle of getting out of bed to use the restroom.

Left lung? But the tumor was in your right lung!

I told you not to use that dyslexic doctor.

    Welcome back,
    Tom
