Exactly. He should consider himself lucky. To some people on chemo just the thought of the effort involved in standing up to walk from their armchair to the bathroom is enough to make them exhausted.

Reminds me of the constipated mathematician.

    You guys are killing me!

Evan, umm gross! Seriously though, the thought did occur to me at one point. Magnesium citrate came to the rescue though. The Colace wasn't enough.

Rebound, they gave me Colace while I was in the hospital and I took it while at home. It took too long to work so I went with the mag citrate. :)

I am feeling much better today. I even decided to go to work for a few hours. My breathing is getting much better. I notice I am not getting winded just walking around the house anymore. One of the nurses mentioned that I walk to fast so maybe that is part of the problem.

Interestingly, on Wednesday I noticed that when I would cough the area where my pectoral muscle meets my armpit would bulge out. It was as if there was a pocket of air where my lung used to be was being compressed such that the pressure would cause that area to pop out. It was really weird. It is mostly gone now so i didn't bother asking the surgeon about it but I'll remember to ask him during my follow up appointment on Monday.

I figure in about a month I'll be back to normal or at least able to do light work without gasping for air. I'll stay away from the high Sierra though. The thought of walking around at 12,000ft. This summer is freaking me out! I love the Bristlecone Pines though. :(

With the lack of altitude training you might as well forget the Olympic marathon this year.

But there's always Rio de Janeiro 2016.

Work up to it gradually, you are young lean and fit so should recover nicely. Take a trip to Tahoe as soon as you feel better and give that elevation a try, then look for higher places if that works.

I drank a lot of coca tea in the Andes a few years ago and that helped, but could get you a nice stay in prison here.

Justin; the perfect light duty walking (warning out its painful in other ways) is to take your Honey to her favorite large department store. Ikea comes to mind. This insures lots of walking but at a very leisurely pace with several rest stops.

Do not recommend this if there is a store wide sale going on!

Justin: I'm back in town and this is the first thread I read. I was concerned about your difficulty breathing (I'm not a doctor and have no idea what's normal after such surgery) but glad to hear it's getting better and that you expect to return to normal eventually.

I know two people who function on one lung after having the other removed. Neither is an athlete, but they seem to function normally, so I hope you can return to the lifestyle you enjoy.

I'm looking forward to your report after today's checkup.

    Hi Daniel,

    Where did you go?

My post-op checkup went well. The x-ray showed I was healing well. The surgeon lookedme over and remarked how about how I was recovering faster than most and that I should be back to normal soon. There were no other signs of cancer so you could say I'm cancer free but everyone knows that may not be true and we will only know after years without a recurrence. Regardless, I am happy to be off chemo for now and even after climbing up one of the hills on a preserve today I felt pretty damned good. Well, after I was done panting and caught my breath. LOL

Come on, Justin, you've been milking this a bit too long. Let's get back to cars and models in bikinis.
