Have a thought. (I know, never a good idea)

A small engine muffler where that conduit, pipe is. That would stop most of particulents (sp) and crud from being reintroduced. And the system would still reclaim some of the sunburned gasses.

Possibly put a small valve or petcock to drain sludge. (That with system as is, is recirculated so the engine gets a second chance to digest and discard)

Oh! After new plugs, gas and hard driving to blow out carbon build up from car being driven by a lol old lady on Sundays in Pasadenia.... up to 45+ MPG. Was 38, 39 when I got the car.

Really odd thing. After spark plug change, she stopped burning oil.

Makes no sense 2 me. Not that I'm complaining or think it permanent. But boggles me wee lil' brain.

Just moved car and double checked. Has not burned any.

Shudder is back. So slight I doubt normal humans would notice. But the tinker-er in me can't stand it. So will be cleaning EGR tomorrow.

Confused here and about to watch Nutz about bolts vid again. Does a separate valve (EGR) need to be replaced at 140K? Guess it does. So will get one, too.
(LoL, English good. we got 3 two's (2, to, too and two and that makes 4. Of which we got 2. Four for and fore which of course, makes 3 and now I'm confused. If you buy a squash and later buy another, wouldn't they be squish? asked the proud owner of 2 Pri.......?

Shop Theme song. Sing to the pardy "Amish Paradise"

    Tinker's paradise

As I ride through the valley where I harvest my brain
I take look at my bike and realize she's quite plain
But that's just perfect for a Tinker like me
You know I shun fancy things like electricity
At 4:30 in the morning I'm changing oil,
Then I needs the coffee and to use toydie.
And I've been wrenching' and growling' so long that
Even the dog thinks that my mind is gone.
I'm a man of the land, I'm into discipline
Got my 10MM in my hand and a grease on my chin.
But if I finish all my chores and you finish thine
Then tonight we're gonna party like it's 1999.

    CHORUS-
We've been spending most our lives living in a Tinker's Paradise
I've mixed the oil once or twice living in a Tinker's Paradise
It's hard work and sacrifice living in a Tinkers paradise
We sell bikes at discount price, living in a Tinker's Paradise

A local motorcycle kicked my butt last week
I just smiled at him and I turned the other cheek,
I really don't care, in fact I wish him well
'cause I'll be laughing my head off when he's paying his tax bill.
But I ain't never punched a cyclest even if he deserved it,
A Tinker with a 'tude, you know that's unheard of.
I never wear leathers but I got a cool helmet
And my homies agree I really look good in black...fool!
If you come to visit you'll be bored to tears
We haven't even paid a road use tax in 15 years.
But we ain't really quaint so please don't point and stare,
    We're just spending impaired.

There's no emissions, no lights, no motor cars not a single luxury
Like Robinson carusoe we're as primitive as can be.

    CHORUS-

We've been spending most our lives living in a Tinker's Paradise.
We're just plain and simple guys living in a Tinker's Paradise
There's no time for sin and vice living in a Tinker's Paradise.
We don't fight, we all play nice living in a Tinker's Paradise.

Hitchin' up the trailer, churnin' lots of gears, true a wheel on Monday,
    Soon I'll true another.
Think you're really righteous, think you're bike will start
Well, I know I'm a mile away from where thou art.
I'm the pious guy the little Amulets wanna be like
On my knees day and night fixing that, that broke last ride.
So don't be vain and don't be whiny or else my brother I might have to get gearhead on your heiny

    CHORUS-

We've been spending most our lives living in a Tinker's Paradise
We're all crazy Mechonites, living in a Tinker's Paradise
There's no cops or traffic lights living in a Tinker's Paradise
But you'd probably think it bites living in a Tinker's Paradise.

Don't replace anything. You pull off the valve/cooler combo, then separate them. The valve I would clean with BrakeKlean, and start with the same stuff for the cooler. Then switch to OxiClean soak with hot saturated solution: plug one end, fill, let soak an hour or so, rinse with hot tap water, repeat maybe 5 times.

Watch @NutzAboutBolts video a time or three, and the referenced videos as well.

I would watch the Intake Manifold clean video too.

Once again, thank you ML. (can I call you M?)

    I confused the PCV valve.

After watching all the vids. Thinking just do the intake manifold while doing the EGR cleaning stuff. While doing that, change the PCV valve. Just to knock em all down while all the wiper assembly is off.
    (PITB!)

(Nutz about bolts vid just suggested same. kewl)

We should do something for that guy. He took a lot of time and do not know how many people he has helped. And the expense and time to do the vids.

They're very well done too. I keep thinking of the brake fluid change video in particular: it has split-screen shows the one guy opening/closing the bleed bolt (fronts in particular, rears are easier), while the other pushes the brake pedal. They are sync'., so you can really tell how to do it without getting air in.

I value them so much, I downloaded them, using VLC Media player and this workflow:

    Download Youtube videos:

    1. Right-click video and select "Copy video URL"
    2. Open VLC Media Player
    3. Pulldown: Media>Open Netork Stream, and paste URL. (Video will play)
    4. Pause video, Pulldown: Tools>Codec INformation, copy content of "Location" field.
    5. Paste content into a browser address window. IE will immediately ask you choose your download options. With FireFox it will start playing, you can right-click and choose to "save video as".

Just in case his You Tube channel goes down.

A buddy lost his job and is buying my 2010 to do some independent contractor work. I am giving it to him for what I owe on it as he is in need. He is a friend and helped me when I was stuck.

It was my goal to get out of this car but now find my self shopping for a new to me Prius, again. I learned my lesson and am asking you guys for advice before buying. Guess I'll start a thread an' ask.

But I am looking for a Prius post 2010. I drive at least 1,000 miles a week, plus. Need room and high MPGs. In reading, not sure a plug-in would be that advantages but asking here. Thoughts on options, models, etc.? I have a courier biz and uber after hours.

Ha! got outa cleaning the EGR. He is a professional mechanic and was gonna hang out while I did it. Now it's his....

So in researching, thinking I should stick with gen 3s after 2011?

Also and driving 200+ miles a day. Is a plug in worth the hassle?

There's some conjecture that 2010~2011 eat more oil, but maybe just conjecture??

Our garage queen is amazingly zero consumption still.

Hey, howdy Aaron. Long time no type.

Yes, feel lucky and he's in a spot. Being a pro wrench, he's not worried about the EGR "stuff" (just annoys me and the slight shimmer. Just not "pri smooth")

Was really getting worried about him. Good guy.

Am focusing on replacing with an after 2011 and thinking plug in. What are your thoughts? At 200 miles a day and first 11 or so miles at 95 or so MPGs, seems worth the extra cost and hassle. Aside from the tree hugger, bunny lover in me. Open to opinions, as always.

Another ponder(ing) I have updated all my tech stuff for biz and just got a surface Pro / Windows 10(The one after Surface Pro 4 but not so aptly called just "Surface Pro" Microsoft Surface Pro – 12.3” – Intel Core i5 – 4GB Memory – 128GB Solid State Drive (Latest Model) Silver FJT-00001 - Best Buy ) Also have an android S8+ cell. All that to ask for thoughts on getting a code reader. Lots of great information here. But so much am information over loaded. Wondering between a Bluetooth type interface and wired?
    Still researching.

Then ya just buy techstream software?

I know, worrisome to offer thoughts on some one asking high-end questions. Just asking how you folks addressed all this and not meaning to annoy.

    Post script;

The surface Pro (not 5, snork) Rocks! well worth the extra. Not particularly a good deal, but a great value. Couldn't be happier with it and I always over think big $ purchases.

Just spent 2 hrs trying to install XP or Vista on an old laptop. Just saw Techstream will run on Windows 10! LoL.

Again, the view from the short bus is nice and always fun.....
    Time consuming but fun.

Yes long time to type! Well since you drive so many miles a day I honestly don't think its worth it. It really wouldn't change your overall mpg much at all since you drive so much every day. Maybe if you did like 40 miles a day it would be more practical, but even then!

I really wanted a plug in hybrid but when it came down to cargo space and the actual dollar and cents.. Especially since 1 gallon on gas can get you almost 50 miles.

If you can get the plug in prius at or near the same price, go for it! But otherwise I'd pass. I do really like the wheels and the over all look of the plug in.

Thanks Aaron! Does/did seem like lots of effort for little reward. Had looked at Lexus hybrids, too. Really love em but would just be an ego thing and not really practical. Har, danangit. Got it back in my head now. But for ubering, 3X pay wise and could still do regular as well. But you have to get a PSL (passenger service license, like a limo driver) And special insurance. Might look into it. If ya hustle, can make a living and that's ontop of pension from U.S.M.M. So would/could do OK.

Too funny. After looking for XP install disk for 2 hrs, I read ya don't need it any more and can use Windows 10 for techstream.. So yay!. Looking for some thing else in old car stuff later, today, (U guessed it but 3) 2 copies of Vista and one XP pro installation CD. I an't never getting off that short bus.

But cool part. Have an old laptop I can dedicate just to TechStream. Loading XP on it now. Had 10 on it. After upgrade to 10, it was all but useless being so slow.

The new surface pro is just to pretty to do such mundane work.....
(No kidding, love this thing and would kill me if I got grease or grime on it)

Ordering this New Mini VCI J2534 OBD2 Diagnostic Tool Code Reader for Lexus Toyota Techstream | eBay

Seems midrange price but I couldn't tell if its the same as the 11 or 77 dollar one as of yet.

    Yay! (an' what'a ya think?)

    2015 Toyota Prius Four $13,995. 63,884 miles.

Thinking I just got real lucky! Price is aside an' before "Whats your lowest price?" I always ask. Normally get some thing, anyway.

Just realized. I went from Gen2, to III to 4 in like 2 or 3 years. Thats devotion.

Seems like a fair price. 2015 is still a generation 3
