That's because it would take a year in your traffic to actually get anywhere!
Besides.......Chunnel notwithstanding.....you live on an island and fuel cost as much as good merlot.....
How far can you actually drive in a year? ;)

yes, the dipstick always seems to be smeared above the high-water mark. doesn't matter how many times I wipe & reinsert. I check twice a month and change every 5K/twice a year. It's inexpensive insurance. I use a dealer discount coupon when available.

After removing dipstick, wipe it and lay it aside, for about 5 minutes. Then reinsert and pull out for check.

It'll be very clean and easy to read: the 5 minute delay allows oil to drain down in the guide tube, oil which apparently causes the smearing.

both good questions. i know one of our engineering members changes the tranny fluid at 5k. not sure what he would do with a car that sat on the lot for a year. as for gas, i don't know how they ship them over, when gas is added, or if it's treated with a stabilizer.

Our 2010 was built 15 months before we bought "new". The only thing we changed at the outset was the 12 volt battery, which was dead as a doornail. Everything else I just treated like it had left the factory yesterday. Did oil change at 6 month / 8000 km, and changed the transaxle fluid at the one year mark.

I think that's about right Mendel. If the parts have not been rubbing together they can't have planed all that swarf into the goo while nobody was looking! (y)

Yeah it's been run a few kms, from factory to ship and so on, and around dealership lot, but nearly nothing.
