    Hello. My name is pTomic, and I live in Serbia, Europe. :) I get some offer to buy used Prius, manufactured 2007. I'm think that is second generation. :D On which problem I need to pay attention ? Seller said that batteries are good, and that car mileage is about 175K Km (~108K miles).

    One issue is the reliability of a ten-year-old chemical battery. The car you're looking at has relatively low usage, but the battery is not mechanical rotating device. Its life depends on factors such as number and depth of charge cycles and storage temperature, which are unknown. Replacements often cost more than the market value of the car. It may be a minor risk statistically, but you should be aware of it.

    An experienced Prius driver can sense the health of the battery during a test drive. And test equipment is available for the home mechanic, but again it takes some experience.

    Other factors are common to any ten-year-old car.

    Basically, what Andrew said. And welcome!

    My wife's 2007 has about 118,000 miles (190,000 km). It has no issues at all. But air conditioning, power brakes, HV battery, are future possibilities.

    Absolutely. Unless there's a place he can take it to to have it done. It is a little expensive for my income level. We got one because we had two Prii to maintain.

    The new batteries in Europe are half the price compared to USA. Just buy new when needed

    the thing with an old car is having a good repair shoppe, because anything can go wrong at any time. in the case of prius, it must be a well qualified hybrid repair shoppe, unless you are a very capable diy'er.

    How did you come to that conclusion? Prices I've seen quoted looked on par with US.

    Actually in the UK. My father in law asked recently and it's £1150 for a new battery and £250 labor to install

    Wow, that is a good deal, last one I saw was around £1700 + labour. Is it a sign of things to come? I'd be over the moon if I could get that sort of price in NZ equivalent; NZ$1983.80 + NZ$431.26 = NZ$2415.06.

    May be they forgot to add the VAT?

    One more question, what if I want to get a new coded keys? Because I'm not sure if the seller gives me all keys? I know that if you have Mercedes you can ask them (dealer) to get you new set of coded keys, for reasonable price (50-60€, $55-$70).

    The Prius has 2 types of keys. There is the electronic key fob and each fob has a traditional mechanical key for use if the electronic fob has issues. You should have received 2 fobs each with a mechanical key that fits your car locks.
    The fobs are electronically paired to the car, usually with the dealer Techstream software. If you only received one fob they can unpair the other one. I know the mechanical keys are coded but I think they only come with a fob.

    Check the headlight leveling sensor. It's in the back driver's side wheel well. The thing corrodes and costs a ton to replace and is a hassle to repair.
    I would remove it from the car and open it up to check the springs for corrosion.
    That's the only thing that went bad on my 2nd generation Prius with ~118k miles

    I'm still looking for some good Prius that will fit my budget. :)
    One more question: Can mileage on odometer be changed ? Something like it's passed 250K miles and odometer shows 125K ?
