Hello kind citizens of Prius Chat !
I wanted to make a post about my new car and also how helpful all the resources and topics on this forum are!
I have a relatively long commute (88mi / 90 minute) from Manahawkin NJ to Jersey City where I catch the Path into NYC. The paid parking lot has free charging, which kinda sealed the deal on a plug in.
The 2010 Hyundai Sante Fe was driving me nuts having to fill the gas tank every morning on the way into work, $21 + a day in fuel, always liked the prius and the plug in Prime caught my eye at the right time!
I love the idea of an all electric but I also enjoy driving long distance on vacation so this made the most sense.
Very happy with the combined MPG so far in the 64-90 range over the old 20MPG SUV

Looking forward to learning more about this car over the next year!

I have encountered one small issue where in HV, after when letting off the gas it may not go into EV right away, reapplying throttle then backing off sometimes helps... this is several minutes after warm up, i realize during warmup it will not let the engine switch off, but needs to continue its cycle.

  2. This is normal with these hybrids, the engine has to "clear its throat" while it's still warming up, or after a heavy burst of acceleration. That is a long commute... (n)
Enjoy the luxuries of the Advanced. Those sensors and heat on your fingers around the wheel will help you to not miss your SUV in the slightest.

with our advanced prime, on our long commutes of 75 miles daily...we get on the average anywhere from 62-95mpg combined with HV driving and EV driving...i dont use the EV auto and only use normal drive mode (left button) and switch back and forth between EV and HV(center button)...i do use charge mode when i get close enough to destination to bring up enough EV miles to EV the rest of the way(charge mode is 2nd button and hold for 3 seconds)...

I live in Long Valley (Exit 26 off of 80) and commute daily through the Holland. I average about 85 mpg round trip (exhausting the EV in the process). I leave at 4-4:15 in the morning to get in by 5 and avoid all the pain cause by the construction on the Pulaski (and 139), but I also get out by 1:30 which avoids all the outbound traffic (i'm lucky that my job allows the flexibility). I love the DRCC in stop-and-go traffic. I just tickle the resume lever when traffic starts moving and have to steer a tiny bit, but it works flawlessly.

I can do an entire week without filling up and have left over for the weekends. I used to only get 3 1/2 trips in with my Gen 3.

Be sure to check out the threads here about level 2 chargers. There are several solutions that won't 'break the bank'.

    Oh awesome
I’m really impressed with the car
This morning was a little cold in the mid 20’s which hurt ev range but it sure is a comfortable and safe ride.
Car braked for me today when someone at a stop sign started to pull away then suddenly slammed on their brakes. Nice to see how that functions
