    With my short commute, I'll use kwh instead of # recharges, as many times I won't have a full charge to do. A bit more work, I grant you.

    That's where the 0.1 comes in for recharges. Some won't consume it all before topping off again.

    3.2 kWh is roughly one full charge (including conversion losses). So, it will be fairly easy to report that based on count.

    Also, I got 14.0 miles of EV on my way to work today. That will be quite a memorable commute being able to get so far from home before the engine fired up.

    No problem with rounding. Since the battery is small, where the SOC comes in, on hybrid mode will change it too. 3kwh should stay with in a 10% margin of error, unless its really still plenty of ev miles left. I know you want to be exact, but the key is you guys are saving a lot of gas and having fun doing it.:cool:

    I recharged at work today.

    209 MPG for the round-trip of 35.7 miles.

    Gotta like that.

    Cool.. and 14m ev on the way in. Seems like some of the PHV drivers will be doing very high %EV.. and giving volt and leaf drivers run for their money. Seems the PHV is very well suited to your needs.

    After one week of driving my beautiful new PHV, I can report the following statistics (I have daily statistics but I haven't compiled it here):

    EV = 278 miles (61 kWh, ~3+ full charges / day)
    HV = 162 miles (2.? gallons)
    Gallons Saved = 5.1 gallons
    EV to HV ratio = 63% to 37%

    Consumption = 154 mpg

    Needless to say, I'm very happy with my new car... :)

    Wow, that is fantastic!! 154 MPG overall is a great example of how strong the performance can be with the PiP!

    I'm curious if you are concerned at all about the number of charges per day? I wonder if the Manual says anything about number of charges per day or lifetime number of charges.

    I'm not sure, it's probably not an issue at all. Thanks for posting, those are fantastic metrics!! :rockon:

    440 miles / 154 mpg = 2.85 gallons consumed.

    Your electric mile efficiency is 219 Wh/mile. Your gas mile efficiency is 56.8 MPG.

    You saved 5.1 gallons with 1.81 equivalent gallon of electricity (61 kWh). Clearly, you are wisely using the battery when gas engine is not efficient in HV mode.

    Sounds good. Some number crunching ..

    Petrol use: (1/209)*35.7 = .171 gallons
    Petrol miles assuming 50 mpg = 8.55 miles

    EV miles = 35.7-8.55 = 27.15 miles

    EV:HV (miles) = 3.175438596:1 or in percents 76:24
    ------------

    How does the calculated ratio match up to what the Prius says ?

    Is the 61 kwh consumption from the wall, or from the car battery ?

    The 61 kWh figure is what the my PHV reported (but, I'm sorry, I'm not sure what it reports).

    That power is what is supplied by the battery to power the car over time. It's not the power that is input into the battery.

    Does anyone have both the kWh reported by the Prius Plug-in and the number from a Kill-a-Watt (or other power meter) from the same charge to determine the charging efficiency?

    I don't believe the car reports what power was supplied only what power was consumed. So, hard to figure efficiency of what is supplied from the wall vs what power goes into the battery. I guess over time you could figure it out based on what the Kill-A-Watt supplies vs what power is consumed by the car.

    The car does report "CHARGE POWER" according to the Owner's Manual on pg. 89. (Unless there is a discrepancy between the Owner's Manual and the car like with the TPMS). I believe "CHARGE POWER" is the kWh the battery is charged and does not take into account the charging losses.

    Battery to wheels.

    Using Dennis' later post of 15% charging losses, the wall to wheels is 258 wh/mile (219/.85).

    Compare that to the Volt's EPA of 360 wh/mile, or the LEAF's EPA of 340 wh/mile.

    258 is pretty good.

    But no point in comparing good drivers to EPA numbers. I have a dozen days with walls to wheel < 250, and my lifetime average is 308 including all my high-speed highway (trips at 100mph just to test it out) and my winter driving.

    That Charge Power screen you're talking about it really odd. You can only see that screen while the car is actually charging. Even then, you need to get in the car and turn it On to see that screen. Once the car is done charging, you can't see that screen anymore. The only (extra) screen you'll see is a box that tells you either (1) the charge is complete or (2) the charging was interrupted.

    I'm willing to bet most PiP owners have never seen that Charge Power screen at all. The only reason I have, I believe, is because I've read your post about this screen in the past and I went to look for it. First time was after the car was done charging (again, couldn't find it) and the second time while it was charging.

    When like I said, it's an odd screen. I'm not sure who would really be benefiting from this extra screen.

    Maybe if you hit DISP on the "CHARGE RESULT" screen while it is still plugged in, it will show the "ENERGY MONITOR/CHARGE POWER" screen?

    That is unfortunate that screen is unavailable when the car isn't charging, b/c it makes it a lot harder to use. It would have been much more user friendly if the kWh were simply reported on the "CHARGE RESULT"
    screen.

    I'm hoping the ECO Dashboard will record kWh charged automatically when it comes out. The screens on Toyota's website don't show it in the ECO Dashboard or Charge Management apps, unfortunately.
