    Hello all,

Well, I am back - I had a 2004 Gen 2 for 8 years, which my niece now drives, and then a 2012 plug-in until 2014. A move out to the foothills onto some acreage, and advice from locals, compelled me to trade the plug-in for a 2014 Ford F-250 diesel. Now it's handy to have a truck, but it serves as my own personal vehicle - at 15mpg on a good day! We're downsizing and I am selling the truck, and want (I believe) a 2017 or 2018 Prime Advanced (I think). I really miss the Prius.

I consulted the forum with its helpful comparisons, as well as Toyota's website. I can't seem to ascertain a few things that I want in the car:

    1. That extra-large display - is that only on the Advanced Model?
    2. The brightest headlights available (LED?) I think my 2012 had HID lamps.
    3. The two-tone seats with whitish inserts (I dislike a monochrome, all-black interior)- are they available on the Prime Advanced? The Toyota website grays out that choice, but that may be because they are trying to steer me towards dealer inventory which may not include the two-toned seats.

I saw that a fair number of 2017 Primes are still in inventory, which is good for me - unless you tell me something(s) really improved on the 2018 models?

My taxable income, being retired, is so low a tax credit won't help me (unless the IRS sends you a check for the credit??). Any ideas what I should pay for the Advanced Prime? I live near Yosemite, so Modesto Toyota is the closest dealer at 55 miles away. I could easily go to the Bay Area to buy from another dealer.

    Thanks in advance, Peter

I'm not sure which trim levels might have different headlights, but wanted to comment that the headlights on my Advanced are *so* much brighter than my old Gen 2 Prius. I didn't think the high beam assist would be that helpful to me, since I always switch to high beam when appropriate anyway. However, it's been great. The car will switch to high beam even for just a couple of seconds for going around a curve, for instance.

No check for the tax credit. It only applies to the taxable amount you owe the year of purchase.

The LED headlights work very well.

Mixed feelings about the big display panel. The angle is bad and sometimes the sun on it makes it useless.

The white (moonstone) seats are only available with certain colors, I have blue magnetism and moonstone interior and LOVE it.

The lights are bright and the auto hi beam lights and auto wipers of the advanced are pretty good features to have. (as well as the blind spot monitoring)

You might be able to bump up your taxable income if you take money out of your traditional IRA, or other taxable retirement plan?

Regarding lights - this is from the brochure:

    The Plus has:
Quad-LED projector headlights with auto level control and auto-off feature
LED Daytime Running Lights (DLR) with on/off feature
    LED taillights and stop lights

    The Premium adds:
Quad-LED projector headlights with auto level control and auto on/off feature

    The Advanced adds:
Integrated LED fog lights and LED accent lights

I am also a little frustrated that the screen doesn't tilt - it doesn't seem that it would take that much extra to have it do that - while I haven't picked our Prime up yet, the large screen appeared to be in a somewhat oblique angle - there is a YouTube person who states that the large screen is blinding when he drives East with the sun directly behind him.

    Sheep??????????????

Bingo! That's exactly what I'll do - Thanks Craig!

I tried the Toyota website again, and this time it "allowed" me to choose White and Moonstone (my two choice colors). But that blue magnetism is growing on me...

@huskers was referring to the ECO Dashboard app (track your driving and MPG) in the Entune Appsuite that came with the Advanced. I use the charge management app in the Entune Appsuite almost daily, not sure if that's available on other trims besides Advanced though...

I went with the Advanced myself for the JBL speakers, blindspot monitoring, backing clearance sensors, lumbar support, and the head up display. What I don't like is the ancient Navigator app and the lack of knob to control the HVAC - it is a pain to adjust your AC while driving, almost impossible without taking your eyes off the road for a few seconds. I also have all windows tinted and haven't had any issue with glares on the screen.

See section below this one [Prime Fuel Economy & EV Range] then go to the [we like sheep...on the ECO Dashboard] thread.

I think they're expecting you to stick with the Auto mode and simply use the temperature up & down buttons found at the left of the screen. That's how I've controlled the HVAC in my last 4 Toyotas. Much easier than mucking with the fan speed, air flow and temp individually.

On my advanced, voice control changes temperature quick and easy, just push the voice button and after the beep say “73 degrees”. I just wish voice could change inside/outside air and fan, but it doesn’t.

shop around and find a state that has the best manufacturer rebate. for instance, if you buy a 2017 prime in NJ you get a $4500 rebate from the manufacturer. if you buy the 2018 you get 0. This is for essentially the identical car.

that much off the price may pay for a vacation to someplace fun!
