Also keep in mind that the AC is not just 100% electric, but how much power it uses depends on how hard it's working. A hot car is going to make it work to max capacity which is a big power suck.

Best thing to do is to open your car door and lower the windows to let a lot of the built up heat escape. Then, the AC is only working to cool "outside" air already in the car.
