Very cool news.. I thought the Prius V might be taking a backseat to the success and popularity of the new Rav4 hybrid. It appears a new Prius V might drop to the US market soon. They say it might look more like the Lexus suv more than a wagon. We will have to wait and see. Both articles have same photos (it appears). Just wanted to share!

Looks like a Prius-c, not a v. Someone is confused.

I think it is much larger than a C?

The links indicate the new car is probably temporarily fitted with a standard Prius front end and a Lexus rear. I am sure scaling it in person makes it clear what size it is, although I wonder how they know it is Prius rather than a Lexus. I am looking forward to it assuming they do update the v and add value, either with more horsepower (possibly 215hp mentioned) and or more mpg (perhaps 50mpg) and or better battery technology (plug-in lithium). Have to wait until this time next year. Prius v's are plentiful in Europe, especially for taxis, and are far better to ride around in over there than the noisy and polluting standard taxis.

either way, i think it is interesting toyota is devoting $$ and resources into making another hybrid option with more cargo room. I don't need a rav4 hybrid with the awd. I would prefer a prius V, the question is, will it equal the mileage?

It could be a direct competitor for the 50mpg Kia Niro Hybrid SUV and the upcoming 50mpg Honda CRV Hybrid. I am confident Toyota won't cede their hybrid leadership to either of those guys.

not if it's a lexus. hard to believe there's much demand for a lexus wagon though.

If true, will we see $4000 rebates on leftover 2017's as buyers hold off for the new models?

The aspect on the different photos makes it look both long and short in different views. Anyhow, hard to see much demand for a wagon with so little space in it. Only the v has the cavernous back seat and rear deck with head room for large items.
But Toyota has always had different models in different areas, there's no reason to think this one will wind up in the US.

I expect 45 MPG combined, both weight and aerodynamics are against it. if it has a plug, 15 mile range. That is my expectation.

My hope is for a level load floor. I am not currently looking to replace my v for another 10 years.

I'd be a buyer if it were:
    • Quieter
    • Had more comfortable seats (longer and angle adjustable front seat)
    • Equipped with electronic nannies.

Its MPG and range equivalent to the current are enough of an improvement over the current CRV which is its buying competition right now for me!

The new CRV and others now have active noise cancellation. The rest is almost default these days.

In the CRV its part of the head unit and uses the mic and speakers. Its so good the passengers can’t use voice commands, only the driver.

wow, what is the hold up, cost?

imagine how light they could make a prius, and the tyres they could use, if noise were not an issue?

My phone has a sound meter function and it is startling the difference car design, tires, age/wear of tires, pavement type and age can have.

Seat comfort (cushion length and ability to angle the front section to give thigh support) on long trips is a priority for me and the v and RAV4 aren't there now for me compared to the CRV (all highest end models).

OTOH, CR's recent stats on brand reliability and the service I've received from my local Toyota dealer have me wanting another Toyota. Guess we have to wait for the next gen and see.

The ANC in the Honda is not quite as good as you might expect in a Bose headphone with rubber ear pads. It is tuned to certain CVT drivetrain and turbo frequencies that the CRV exhibits but still lets you talk to passengers. Tire/road noise is still pronounced unless you buy the best tires, same as Toyota. I have found those better tires to be Michelins run at nameplate pressures. I think for the money, Toyota is hard to beat. For one thing, Toyota stands behind their products often after the warranty expires. They have an ergonomic/human factors team. Basically they set the standard of quality these days.

This is very obviously a Niro competitor and I like the idea!
