New Tank Record! 3536 miles 314MPG in a Prius II PHEV

    Once again Hybridfest has forced me to fill up early. But not by much this time.

    Today I have set a new distance record on my 2006 Prius Plug In. 3536.4 miles and 313.51MPG. This tank started out on February 6th and ended today July 12th. I had about 5% fuel remaining according the the CAN-View. At the rate I was going I could have driven about another 50-100 miles. This tank was about 99% my commute to work and back.


    Here are some stats.

    Distance: 3536.4
    Calculated MPG: 313.51
    MPG Equivalent: 115.43MPGe
    Gallons gas used: 11.280 @ $2.779
    Watt hours used: 650379.9 @ 8 cents per kWh
    Watt hours per mile: 183.91
    Total tank cost: $83.38
    Cents per mile: 2.4

    Sorry no CAN-View or Scan Gauge pictures because at these high numbers the CV and SG are so far off on accuracy it not even worth mentioning.


    According to the Scan Gauge my daily trips resulted in about 500-600MPG. I feel that a 4000 mile tank is doable. A 5000 mile tank is possible and 6000 mile tank it just with in reach but would take a lot of work. The only way I would be able to reach anything above 4000 miles a tank is to not go on any long trips between March and November.

    Congratulations, that's quite an achievement. I look forward to seeing some more high numbers. I'm happy just traveling an 800 mile round trip this weekend and only needing to use a tank and a half.

    is it bad for me to hope my 2010's batteries go bad so i have an excuse to upgrade to a plug in system?

    No. I was running straight winter gas.


    YES! YES I WILL! HAHAHAHA :evil: Unless you want to trade. I would not mind driving an official plug in Prius for 30-40 miles. One thing your going to have to figure out is how to keep it charged as you make it to the starting gate. You should ask if you can get a 4kWh Enginer kit temporally installed. :D

    Mostly forced EV with the EV button until I reach the highway. Then its about 3 miles with the engine on then back to EV.

    Congratulations! I love to read these success stories so I hope you keep 'em coming.

    I had no idea that the electricity needed to recharge the Hymotion battery was so inexpensive. We don't drive long distances except to commute between our summer (CO) and winter (AZ) homes, so a plug-in would work well for our purposes.

    Hmmm . . . I wonder if that Tom Hanks Prius is still available. Wish it was Superwhite.
