    Steve Woodruff is the gentleman I bought the car from in IN. His shop is a great place, there's usually 3-4 Prii parked out front for sale, plus the one he drives and 5-10 works in progress out back! Feels like a 24/7 Prius convention!

    Well, I'm 3 for 3 on internet access :lol:

    I pretty much always stop at the Big Texan when driving through Amarillo. Who would have thought that they would have added a free wifi hotpot? Did only 45.7 this tank, lots of uphill (~2500' up to Amarillo). First 150 miles was looking great at about 51mpg! Oh well. Eventually I have to come back down......

    Not quite dead yet :blink:

    Made it to Gallup, NM. Did 47.4mpg despite climbing the Continental Divide! Started at ~2900' in TX, then climbed to over 7100', No back down around 6000' Mileage was down in the low 40s for a while there. Really had no trouble with the climb at all though. Was pretty easy to keep it over 60mph and still not use much battery. Got down below half a few times, but just barely. Part of the problem was had to have the AC running.

    1450 miles down, 350 to go!

    Home at last!

    Finally got to go down hill for a while B)

    Last tank was 56.1 by the MFD, 60.8 calculated! I guess thats what happens when you drop over 5000' ft over the last 100 miles or so. Total mileage was 1840 miles, averaged 48.59 mpg by the mfd (weighted average), 47.25mpg calculate (37.9 gal). Overall went up 49568', down 48701'.

    Did you stay at the Wigwam motel? I was going to take Rt.66 back to Florida if I ended up getting a Prius out west, but I ended up flying up to PA to get my used Prius (which I love dearly). When I finally moved out to CA the car got lucky and was on a trailer the whole trip until Yuma, AZ. (For future reference, laying on black pavement in the middle of AZ to unhook a car really hurts.) I set a lot of records for the car on the Yuma to San Diego trip; highest temperature driven in, 107 degrees at 80 mph; fastest elevation change (desert to mountains to SD valleys); fastest speed ever driven, 96 mph down the mountains (not by choice); and worst mileage ever, 36 mpg.

    Congrats on your new Prius, and welcome to the long distance buyer club.

    I would love to have more time to explore 66. I've done the trip across this stretch several times now, but always in too much of a hurry to stop and see everything along the way. I love history anyway, and "modern ruins" have always held particular allure. The little glimpses of the past you get from I-40 really make me wish I had the time to slow down and drive the old route, see the old towns.

    I haven't gotten to stay at the Wigwam yet, but I had seen it before and knew it would make a good picture. I was trying to push on to Holbrook, AZ for my last night stay, but after sitting on the freeway in accident traffic I ran out of steam at Galllup, NM. I had been through Holbrook before, as its the turnoff for the shortcut through Heber and Payson down to Phoenix. Its steep and twisty, but shorter than going all the way over to Flagstaff and down I17.

    Congratulations on the new Prius!

    BTW it is not stealing if the network is not secure. You didn't ask to be hit by the wifi signal that was not secured. If the owner happens to have it there and not secure, the the assumption is that they want you to use it other wise they would have taken the extra 5 minutes when setting up the network to secure it.

    Man those things look cheesy. I couldn't figure out why I appeared to have the only Prius on the planet with hubcaps. Then I realized these were the oft scorned plastic wheel rings. Pulled them off at work and threw them in the trunk! Looks much better. B)
