    How I expect it will work:

    Your car can easily collect anything that runs through the CANBUS. Whatever bits Toyota thinks might be useful get offloaded into the cloud. You don't see or hear anything. Various entities purchase 24/7/365 access to this information in real time. Each entity runs data through their own systems and looks for things that interest them.

    The manufacturer will look for things that they consider "abusive" behavior and use that to deny warranty coverage.

    Your insurance company will collect data on your driving habits and run it through algorithms that look for patterns of behavior that they associate with high-claim and high-risk individuals. You won't know what the patterns are - they are confidential company property. If you happen to match up with the wrong thing your rates will go up sharply even though you haven't done anything. You will have no way to appeal this. If you try to move to another company the other company will buy your, call it a "hazard rating", from your existing company. New company will also offer absurdly high insurance for no reason you can pin down.

    Your local law enforcement/municipality/state agencies will use this data to generate revenue. There are abundant examples of this around already. Some common ones are: English style congestion charging. If you go to town at certain days or hours they send you a bill. You cross a bridge they send you a bill. Mileage charges. Every time you start the car a timer will start going. Monthly bills will come for however far you have driven. Law enforcement will have a field day. They don't even have to send out a car, just collect your data and send tickets for whatever is the fashionable offense at the time.

    After this we get into the interesting stuff. various entities will pay extra for the full details of your habits. Your (ex) spouses attorney will examine every place you have ever driven. This information, creatively interpreted, will show up in court.

    Cheap Chinese spoofers will appear on the market. They will have fittings so you can plug them in to your telematics antenna and run all outgoing data through them. They will claim to "legalize" all your driving habits. It will be potluck for what does or does not work. Criminals and griefers will learn how to send out your signal from their vehicle. The criminals won't be so bad. They are working and don't want to draw attention. It is the griefers that will have "your" car report that it went through a work zone at 145 miles per hour. Good luck getting your license back.

    or . . . as any true prepper will tell you ... there is a way to make sure your car can withstand being hacked ... or even bombarded by massive EMP's;
