This will be common sense for many, but it took me too long to make this a habit. For steep driveways, definitely get in the habit of stopping your Prius and putting it in neutral, then set the emergency brake while in neutral. Make sure the car doesn't roll before hitting the "Park" button. This will ensure no or minimal pressure on the tranny pin, and eliminate that horrible clunk when shifting out of "Park".

I use parking brakes all the time. Here’s my method:

    1. Push brakes to hold car in place and keep holding brake pedal it down.

    2. Set parking brake.

    3. Press “P” or “start/stop” button.

    4. Lastly release brake pedal.
If you pressed “P” on step 3, you can then turn car off with start stop button.

No need for neutral during the Process. In fact neutral is to be avoided, especially car washes that says so.

Especially if you're dumb enough to go through with air conditioning running at full tilt. In various other circumstances, neutral is useful and harmless.
