    Hello all,

I would like to report that a Japanese Prius driver, Hata_Hata@Tokyo, achived 1,680 miles/tank (2,704.5 km).
The computer mileage was 106.6 mpg (45.3 km/L).
    2704km report (Japanese only BBS)

The previous world record was 1619 miles/tank.
    http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-...311-new-world-record-1619-miles-per-tank.html

Please note that Japanese Prius fuel tank has no bladder and can hold up to approx 15.9 US gallons, 60 liters.

Is that the rated capacity Ken? 60 litres or do you have the same tank as us in Australia but they squeeze 60 litres in it? Although I'm happy with my range with a 45 litre tank a 60 would be nice for those long trips. I'd never squeeze more than a normal fill into my tank for fear of harming my emission control systems.

    edit
i can not get google to translate the website
    but
when i look at this picture
    [IMG]
the ICE was on for 24,7 % of the 1680 miles..
was this a downhill trip from a high up location going most downhill?

That's from pulsing at a good rate of acceleration so you can glide again.

Very cool. How can we get a larger fuel tank in the 2010? I wish we had a 18-20 gallon tank and could fill up once a month....

I fill up less than once a month with the Gen II tank.

That's some patience on the gliding part. < 25% engine-on time? Yeesh!! Congrats though! Still, no fair that he got 60 litres in lol =P

I would be more impressed with 150MPG over 1000 miles than 100MPG over 2000 miles.

This is still a great accomplishment! I whish I could pull those numbers in a regular Prius.

    Thank all for your comments.
He has the standard 45 liters tank.
We know we can put more than 60 liters to raise the left rear wheel when filling up. :)
Please note that the 3G Prius could not accept such gain of gasoline.

Japan is a small country and we don't have such long down hill.
His home road is near Tokyo where the road is almost flat.

Thanks for that map with 1,000 km scale. He could've drove around the entire main island in one tank.

I thought that was how it was done. Is there a danger of doing harm filling the tank that full?

So... they shortened the filler pipe then?

We've never heard of any ill effects.
But, there's no guarantee. Do it on your own risk. ;)

Thanks, Ken! What is the fuel tank capacity of the JDM 3G Prius when the left rear wheel is raised?

Regarding the concern about emissions control damage, I think this would be a problem only if you overfilled, then immediately parked the car in the hot sun so that the gasoline could heat up and expand into the charcoal canister etc.

    Great news! Thank you! :)

Just to make sure that I understand the record correctly: the record is for distance per tank, not distance per gallon, since the previous record already achieved 45.3 km/l, right? In other words this new record is for putting more gas in the tank, not for higher fuel efficiency, right? Of course I would be happy to get just a fraction of the mpg achieved. :)

    Thank you, Patrick.
The official number is 45L on the JDM 3G Prius.
It looks the raised tank held the same 45L, but I saw my JDM 3G Prius held approx 47L when filled at flat surface. :)

So, the raised method lost some tank capacity on the 3G Prius.
You're absolutely correct. It was not the best distance per gallon or the best MPG number above 1000mile tank.

AFAIK, the best MPG number above 1000mile tank was 112.2mpg by TeddyGirl@Akita.
