I just purchased a 2007 Prius for my daughter. I was looking over the past repair orders that have been performed at a Toyota dealership. On 03/06/2015 it states that the car won't start and several lights are on the dash panel. It says replaced battery under parts warranty. Original purchase was on 08/20/13 mileage was 104,797.
Battery test code 46C21U-1TPOLV-B tech tested battery and found it to be bad. Replaced battery everything working.

Question: does this mean the travel battery was replaced or the 12V.

A 2007 with "original purchase" in 2013? That's the original purchase of the part, the battery, that was replaced not the car, right? Likewise, at 100k+ on the odometer, there's little if any warranty left on anything in the car.

The 12v is used to boot the computers (to "start" the car). It's also highly unlikely that the dealer had a spare HV battery to swap in unless the vehicle spent several days in the shop

For all of those reasons, my money is on a replaced 12v failing and being replaced again.

Here is a copy of the work order. In the notes it says Battery / Battery Combo

Yup. It says "under parts warranty." Not drive train or hybrid system warranty. So I'm sure it was the 12 volt battery and not the traction battery. Especially at that age and mileage.

Why sad? 12v batteries get replaced when it is needed. It can't be avoided just like the hybrid battery itself. How many miles does it have?

How much did you pay for the car? If you plan on keeping it for awhile, I would start a battery fund. You will be prepared whenever the hybrid battery dies.

Paid $3900, it is well optioned with GPS. Looks like the previous owner took good care of it. Will be shopping for tires later this week. Any suggestions, looking for a good tire that won't break the bank. Great advise on the battery fund.
