    As the best selling plug-in vehicle in the UK, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is an important model for British car buyers. Mitsubishi has just brought out a new version and Next Green Car attended the launch to get a taste of what it's like.

    Of note, the base price of the Outlander PHEV GX3h is ~£1,000 more than the Prius PHV (both after government grants/rebates) but the as-tested price of the fully loaded Outlander PHEV GX4hs is £35,999 after grants/rebates. (After exchange rates, about the price of a BMW 340i RWD sedan with TTL or a Highlander Limited Platinum V6 with TTL, accounting for the higher sales tax in GB).

    I think it's in the 30mpg range IIRC. I can't remember which article it was but I did a quick conversion and estimation. I remember it was like the Volt in terms of hybrid mpg but the difference is that it can fit 5 adults with a normal-sized cargo area. That and it weighs nearly 1,800kg/3,960lbs

    yes, that's not bad for a good sized vehicle, lugging around that much battery power. do we have any pics of luggage space?

    There's a folding 3rd row option in the diesel version so I'm guessing it just goes into the cavity left by not installing the 3rd row of seats.

    They used to rush the space shuttle launches - and you know how that went. I'd take patience over speedy delivery.

    btw the OP is just a teeny bit misleading - as the Mitsubishi plugin has been out for some amount of years now. It's just us North American residents that are being put on hold due to lack of traction batteries.

    It's updated for 2016 just like the regular Outlander that we currently have on sale.

    Maybe/hopefully autoblog has it wrong - because when they said this ;

    they apparently were clueless that the Kia Soul also has chademo and they're for that standard as well. I was looking forward to their car using CHAdeMO and most likely would have considered getting an early one. But without DC quick charging - forget it.

    The prius phv is taking its time, checking it twice, making sure whether its potential customers are naughty or nice.

    Umm delivery is not being rushed from any of the japanese designed plug-ins This is a very slow roll.

    Leaf made it to US shores without proper battery thermal management. That wasn't a rush, it was a choice. They are sticking with the lack of liquid conditioning, but trying to change batteries. We will see how it goes.

    The RAV4 EV is the only Japanese name plate rushed, but the whole point of that vehicle was to see how fast you could engineer a EV solution and get zev credits. You can't say toyota ever wanted to sell the thing, they wanted to see if it could be done, and it was, with a lot of birth pangs, but quickly.

    Good Luck mitsubishi, but postponing until august 2016 probably means the model X and kia nero will have taken away alot of potential sales. IMHO this will remain primarily a japanese and european vehicle.

    Perhaps mitsubishi has not embraced it as much as you would like. They won't have chademo in european or american shipped outlander phevs. I don't know about japan.
