I want to buy NiMH HV battery from junk yards. Often in the description of their listings there's only "VIN __, 7th and 8th digit" (e.g. VIN FU, 7th and 8th digit). I wonder if it's possible / how to tell whether it's the NiMH or Li-ion type from the 7th & 8th digit of VIN alone.

(PS: I assume the 4th gen's NiMH battery modules can be used on 2nd gen, but not the Li-ion ones)

    Thank you

Thanks for the info. It seems, though, the two battery types differ not in the 7th & 8th digit, but rather the 4th & 5th digit of VIN.:(

I'm not sure that you can assume that - I suspect that you could run into many issues with compatibility. Could be worth researching.

I thought it was simpler than the VIN. AWD are all NiMH, FWD are all Li but the basic?
