Nissan recently began selling in Mississauga, Ontario, its first-ever Canadian Altima Hybrids. Dixie Nissan Ltd. became the first dealership in the country to offer this new environmentally-friendly model. While offering style, convenience, comfort and the same build quality as the other 2007 Altimas, the hybrid variant enhances fuel economy and performance and reduces toxic emissions.

In terms of technology, the Altima Hybrid features an advanced hybrid-electric powertrain, a nickel metal hydrate battery pack, a hybrid management system as well as a 2.5L 4-cylinder gasoline engine. Despite a fairly high combined output (198 hp), the car has a fuel economy rating as low as 5.6 L/100 km in the city and 5.9 L/100 km on the highway. The best of both worlds, you might say! Nissan's new D-platform could help the Altima Hybrid become one of the top high-performance FWD sedans on the planet.

The Japanese automaker has announced a base price of $32,998, which is an interesting proposition considering the increased comfort, roomy interior and high quality.

Cool! I saw my first altima hybrid on the road (SoCAL) just a few weeks ago and was shocked that it wasn't a Toyota or Honda!

We in the US still haven't adopted the metric system, what is that in MPG?

    • 5.9 litre/100 km = 39.9 mpg
      5.6 litre/100 km = 42 mpg
I found this web page useful when that question came up elsewhere recently.

How is the Altima getting better MPG than the Camry? Considering the Camry has newer hybrid design, or Altima getting the older Toyota hybrid design.

The Altima is running the older Toyota Hy setup.

"every bit a Nissan" ... except for the parts that are Aisin, just
like the Prius. Essentially the same drivetrain.

I wonder how you'll service the Nissan Altima Hybrid... go to a Toyota dealership? haha.

Yeah, I was kinda surprised that it got slightly better city mileage than the TCH (which is rated at 5.7/5.7 up here). The base price of a NAH is ~$1,000 than the TCH

and yeah, that's how the news is posted right? Copy the first paragraph or so and then give the link. (although this one was so short, I just gave the entire news article)

I like the digital instrument cluster!

I saw an ad for the HyAlt, I'm pretty sure it referred to the 'CVT', although I may have misheard. but it makes sense if they're leasing it from Toyota. Strange thing about the ad tho, it didn't mention that it was a hybrid, just "the new Altima"....

Thanks, I'll keep my Prius :) Better mileage, 50% more cargo capacity. Love the digital 'under windshield' display and 'joystick' shifter. I wonder if the Nissan "intelligent key" is smarter than Toyota's "Smart Key" ;)

    lol.

The Altima up here comes in one base model. There's no leather, nav or moonroof option. Looks like Nissan just wants to offer the bare essentials.

I did a quick research because a friend of mine is buying it. The warrenty is 36 / 36,000 bumper to bumper and 60 / 60,000 powertrain warranty. The dealer is asking $3,000 for the platinum extended warrenty. I recommended not to buy because for Prius, it is $995.

Hmm I'm disappointed to hear the Altima's hybid technology is just recycled from the old Prius. I had higher expectations.

I'm actually curious now... we've all heard that Toyota is leasing THS-II.. but it seems like it's running on HSD which probably means Toyota has a new system coming out soon.

No way can THS-II get similar mileage on the Altima compared to the TCH with HSD. Granted, the Altima is lighter but... damn!
