    Tritium emits alpha radiation, which can barely penetrate the top layers of skin. The really cool kids in Japan won't have any problems, unless they start ingesting the stuff.

    Tritium is a weak beta emitter. It decays to Helium-3 which is stable.

    You are correct about it's lack of penetration capability

    You are, of course, correct. The beta radiation from tritium can penetrate about 6 mm of air. It has a hard time getting through even the first layer of dead skin on humans. On the other hand, ingesting it is not a good idea.

    I stopped knocking holes in the ocean before Bubba got to the ora...oops(*!) I mean oval office...and I've forgotten all my RAD training.
