    everyone.

I'm reading about some posts here regarding ways to maintain the health of prius hybrid battery. I am not a car person, scared to touch anything under my car's hood except the oil dipstick.

I contacted a repair shop here in Chicago area that specializes in hybrid battery. I asked if they can do a preventative maintenance for my Prius 2011 with 177K miles on it. My car is working well, and no light/code is on. They claimed that there's no such technology right now that exists that can do that. They advised me to call them back if a code will pop in my dash board.

I'm confused. Is the 'talk' here about ways to make your battery lasts longer for DIYers?

Anybody here knows any shop that offers preventative maintenance for battery around Chicago area?

    Thank you so much.

The best thing is to keep the hv battery screen and blower wheel clean.

Well if you are asking for "opinion's?" I'm gonna call, BS on those guy's! This is the answer to your question.

Prolong Value Reconditioning Package | Hybrid Automotive

Our local Hybrid Shop, charges what I feel is a silly price for installing the harness and doing the work. To use the "Prolong System," but they do know it is out there. :)

Yes. Any way for battery maintenance. I did a test via Dr Prius app and it’s only 50’s capacity. I just would like to prevent it from degrading.

    thanks for responding.

    @ Samuel Williams Jr/

    Thanks for the response.

I don’t think I have enough skill/ courage to do this on my own. And I was wondering if there are shops around Chicago area that offer this service. I do work in healthcare and have no clue car-wise. I need a reliable battery 24/7.

Again, if somebody can recommend a shop around my area who offers this services. Thank you.

LOL well no not exactly in our case. Our local Hybrid Shop told my wife it was $ 425 for "Battery Maintenance?" And near as I could tell, that meant they would install the "Prolong Charger," harness and do the recharge/discharge thing?

The process strikes me as a good idea? But at that price, I'll buy the gear and do it, myself. :)

Now if it works or not I can't say? But I have spent way more than that, on motors over the year's and sometimes it has not worked out to well. :(

They are telling you the honest truth.

Current batteries all work from a chemical process. The chemicals gradually "wear out" and can not be retrieved with any external process.
    They just can't.

The "hobby" rejuvenations are time consuming, expensive and short lived.
It is like putting a bandaid on skin cancer.

This is shop vs diy maintenance on the hv battery. The diy maintenance that I see goes on for days, imagine the total amount the shop will charge you manipulated by the hour for labor itself.

if no one can recommend a shop, i would call around and ask mech's if they will install the leads for you. the reconditioning process is the easy part.

also, contact jeff at hybrid automotive. he may have a contact in the area, idk.

Easy, just stop the passage of time!

I don't see much sense in this. The prolong grid chargers might genuinely give you some extra time, but of course it helps to start early- and this battery has already gone 10 years so no early start. It's like jumping out of a plane- the fall will take somewhat longer if you use a parachute, but you are still going to hit the ground. Also, the delay before that hit is maximized if you start using the parachute at the earliest opportunity.

You've made it most of the way down before even thinking of talking to the parachute salesman. I say save your money.

So from my point of view, you're talking about spending hundreds of dollars just to re-schedule your next battery replacement a year or two later, and to me that's only worth it if you're planning to ditch the car sometime in that date range. Better to keep the savings in your pocket and enjoy a fresh new battery when that day comes.
