"Drinking the kool-aid" roughly means "mindless follower".

The term's origin comes from: [ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Jones[/ame]

What is amusing to me is that as long as the POTUS was Bush it was humor but with Obama it is political :D

Probably because the OP is known to harbor the most vitriolic hatred of President Obama imaginable. He enthusiastically turns the most unrelated comment into vituperation against the President. This makes it hard to believe that any mention by him of the President is innocent humor. Given the OP's history, it is reasonable to assume that any post of his that can be interpreted as critical of the President, was intended to be critical of the president.

Even the tone of the thread title, "No soup for you!" is taunting, and the included quote (unrelated to the "butt-grabbing" pictures which are supposed to be the subject of humor!) is directly critical of the president for visiting a restaurant that serves shark-fin soup.

If the post was intended as political criticism, then it belongs in the Politics forum.

The OP has long ago forfeited, by his own behavior, any right to claim that any mention by him of Barak Obama is innocent.

Can you honestly dispute anything I said in that post? Calling it "drama" is a cute way to put it down without having to admit that it's factual.

No he can't, thus his claim of innocence.

Well since you were seeking the nomination for a Globe first, you go first.

Please prove the above. And in case you don't know what vitriolic hatred is:

    emphases added.

Perhaps an actual example would suffice:
    and
And I couldn't even find the really vitriolic posts you made... guess the mods deleted those.

I am sorry, I must have missed that memo.

I agree, the original post was humorous with a subtle political slant. I could see Obama supporters being harder on him for the shark fin soup screw-up.

Why? Did he eat Shark Fin soup? Would anyone think to look for Shark Fin soup on the menu in a Chinese restaurant you simply decided to eat at? Does anyone here know the official ruling on what restaurants can and can not serve Shark Fin soup and why?

There was no purpose for this thread, other then to try to be political, considering the OP, fact and end of discussion.

Thank you. You have accurately summarized my view of religion. I'm not entirely sure what that has to do with T's demonstrated view of President Obama, but I stand by my statements on both subjects. I still view religion as I did in the posts you quoted, and I still regard T as perhaps our most vitriolic hater of the President here on Prius Chat. And I still consider that any mention by him of the President is made with the intention to cast aspersions.

My own view of Barak Obama, in case anyone has missed it, and so that I do not get mis-categorized, is that I think he is a basically good and decent person, most of whose political policies I disagree with as being too far to the right. (He being a middle-of-the-road Democrat, and me being a socialist.)

Come to think of it, you have brought up a good parallel:

Given my views of religion, if I were to post a "joke" poking fun at religion, you would be justified in assuming that my intention was to make religion look bad. If Prius Chat had a separate forum for religion, I would be out of place posting my anti-religion joke in FHOP because in addition to whatever humor I felt was in my joke, my intention was to promote an anti-religion viewpoint, and the post would have belonged in the religion forum.

The same applies to T, whose view of the President is, as you have clearly pointed out, as negative as my view of religion. Therefore we can assume that his "joke" involving the President was intended to make the President look bad, and therefore was intended as political, and belongs in the political forum.

I was simply giving examples of vitriolic hatred to make sure we were using the same definition.

I disagree and again think your are over-dramatizing.

No, I think it's a different definition. Non-acceptance of religion is often cited by believers as 'hatred', when it's nothing of the sort.

With all due respect, the messages of 'god is love' and 'god hates fags' are inconsistent, at best. Being told to go to hell for non-belief, as I and many others have, seems to fit the definition of hatred more closely than Daniel's 'bunny flubbing insane', but hey, everybody's got their own opinion.

The point is that there is a separate forum for politics. Posts intended as criticism of a political figure belong there, not here in FHOP.

Perhaps the concept of 'love the sinner, hate the sin' can work both ways. My apologies if I've ever called you an idiot. Calling certain beliefs idiotic is not the same thing. It's generally more acceptable to say something like "That was a stupid thing to do" than something like "Boy, are you ever stupid."

^ We are fine - I was just making a general observation. There are people on all sides in the religion discussion that are either too intense, too personal, or harp on it too much. I'm happy that it's toned down recently.

On the thread topic, recent history has indicated the party out of power does themselves no favors ripping up the current President....it hurt the Democrats in 2004, the GOP in 1996.

I'm thinking how full-circle it come in 30 years....Reagan was a bumbling, absent-minded idiot that was GOING to start WWIII, but did the Democrats have a viable alternative? In a like manner, Republicans are hating on Obama and they can't figure which Flavor of the Month to run against him in the general election this fall.

The two examples of hating on Obama that may backfire is the birther issue and those that choose to believe he is a closet Muslim....there is no way he could hide either one. This is just people with hatred so childish they choose to accept such myths as fact.

Hating his policies is fair game - I don't support most of his positions.

Until the end, Reagan was in a close race against Carter in 1980. If he got personal he would have lost to Carter.

There are a lot more myths then that that people are accepting, and that is the sad part about the whole upcoming election, almost none of the complaints from the Republican side are realistic or true. My two gripes about Obama are based on fact, he backs down to Republican pressure, and he has been too Republican in policy.
