I think that's a good thing for a big city. I have never been to Amsterdam, but if I live in a large population dense city, I would not want to own a car, provided there is alternative public transit available. What I wonder is that if someone from outside of the city needs to visit, would there be somewhere outside where people can park their cars and take public transit into the city?

    Good question about someone visiting.

It has been a couple decades since my only visit in Amsterdam. But in the portions of Europe where I have traveled, much of the population could leave their cars at home or near their local public transit, and take a mixture of local transit and major rail to get to the major cities. Then have access to other local transit at the destination. While this won't cover everyone, it covers a far greater portion of the population than here in the U.S.

Amsterdam itself has 11 rail stations.

Interesting. Well, 2030 is 11 years away, FWIW... By then, a lot of things could change, including that mandate. They probably do need that law to allow for PHEVs, and gradually make diesel and gas harder to come by.

They don't have anywhere near as much "outside the city" as we do in the USA. And what they do have is much better served by rail than what we have.

The outermost stops of your nearby MBTA system have parking lots for those driving in from further out. It's similar everywhere.
